The washington state bar association (wsba) operates under the delegated authority of the washington supreme court to license the state’s nearly 40,000 lawyers and other legal professionalsIn furtherance of its obligation to protect and serve the public, the wsba both regulates lawyers and other legal professionals and serves its members as a professional association—all without public funding.
About the position:
This position is part of a programming team to develop, implement, and maintain commercial software packages, web-based applications, and client-server systemsS/he participates in analysis, design, programming, data conversion and implementation of software projectsThis position reports directly to the it application development manager but may receive task assignments from a project manager.
Principal job duties & responsibilities:
Participate in planning, analysis, design, coding, data conversion and implementation of projectsAssist with task planning, schedule estimation, and work coordination with technical staffAssist in training new or inexperienced staff as requestedMay act in a lead role with respect to sdlc process improvements, developing and delivering user training, addressing / coordinating user requests, and identifying areas for improvement in user processes
Assume maintenance and support responsibilities for assigned systems.
Gather requirements via group and individual design sessions and meetings with the end users and other it staff.
Produce standardized documentation which captures requirements, progress, or other design decisions for others to use and also recreate using a similar standard.
Report regularly on project or task status.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position does not supervise others, but may act in a lead role with respect to programming assignments for certain systems in operations and maintenance modeThe developer is involved in making technical decisions, and collaborating with other programmersThe degree of supervision required for this position should be minimal; direction may come from the it application development manager, a project manager or the it directorThe job requires an experienced programmer who will be expected to use best judgment in recommending designs and solutions for technical problem solvingThe position needs a self-starter who is used to working with project deadlinesS/he must be able to structure his/her own work schedule and produce product according to schedule.
The position holder may be exposed to data of a confidential nature during application building or data conversionThis could include personal, disciplinary, and/or financial information about members or other staffThe person must be an individual who can be trusted with data.
Ability to thoroughly understand complex requirements and business rulesFacility with estimating time involved in problem solving and product deliveryExcellent logic skills evidenced by the ability to code complex routines (e.gVb or sql)Ability to work effectively either individually or as part of a team.
Personal computers, servers, auxiliary equipment, microsoft office suite, visio (or another diagramming tool), and advanced knowledge of specialized software/programming languages for software development including those listed in the experience required section belowAbility to learn the functionality of a new application/tool and to reach expert level quickly.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or another field that teaches programming, analysis, writing, and organization skillsThe equivalent combination of education and/or experience will also be considered.
At least 3 years increasingly responsible experience in design, development, and implementation of web-based and client/server systems (both gui and middle-tier) using a 3-tier model with sql server databases.
Experience implementing and supporting commercial package systems is also important.
The position holder should have facility with a variety of current tools and programming languages (e.gVb, asp, .net technologies, sql, xml, visual studio, erwin).
Proven programming, writing, analytical, and team building skillsKnowledge of current, standard programming and analysis tools/techniques for requirements gathering, flow diagramming, and software/database design, development, and maintenanceIn particular, proficiency with the technologies described in the experience required section above.
Also important is the facility for effectively communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences and the ability to work in a collaborative atmosphere as a productive team member.
