About the role: we are looking for a modeling and simulaiton scientist to join our teamIn this role, you will support in the areas of medical device design, development, and optimization; this position offers a unique opportunity to deliver material characterizations that will assist the design iteration of medical products and validation of computational modelsYou will perform structural analysis experiments using engineering principles of mechanics, materials and durability of medical devices.
This position offers the option to work on-site at our facility in flagstaff, arizona or phoenix, arizona, with flexible work from home options availableThis position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, meaning you could work remote part of the time, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs*
Responsibilities:
Provide experimental and analytical support in the areas of medical product design, optimization and new products development
Perform structural analysis of medical devices using 2d and 3d digital image correlation (dic)
Perform other experimental and analytical procedures that will assist in the application, design and manufacture of medical products
Perform process automation and optimization
Execute structural analysis experiments including setup, data acquisition, pre and post processing, and data analysis
Execute experiments to assess the accuracy of digital image correlation setups
Develop and advance digital image correlation capabilities to support accelerated product design and evaluation, including in-vitro testing
Assist in verification and validation of computational models
Required qualifications:
Master of science degree or higher in mechanical, biomedical, materials science engineering, or other relevant degrees and a minimum of 3 years experience in experimental structural analysis
Minimum of 3 years experience with 2d and 3d digital image correlation with experience in speckling, calibration, lighting and lensing, test setup, data acquisition, processing, and data analysis
Experience with experimental methods to characterize the mechanical behavior of materials, such as: tension, shear, bending, and compression
Expertise with measurement instrumentation such as instron, load cells and thermocouples
Experience with statistical design of experiments (doe) and uncertainty analyses, verification and validation of computational models and astm material testing standards
Knowledge of durability and fracture mechanics
Excellent spoken and written communication skills
Attention to detail, well organized and agile with changing priorities
Proven ability to embrace new concepts and learn quickly
Ability to travel up to 10%
Desired qualifications:
Ph.d degree with dissertation related work in digital image correlation and cardiovascular medical devices
Experience with other imaging techniques such as particle image velocimetry (piv), laser induced fluoroscopy (lif), optical and scanning electron microscopy (sem) is a plus
Experience with superelastic nitinol and fluoropolymers and/or e xperience in programming languages (e.gC++, python, matlab) and/or k nowledge of computational modeling (finite element analysis) and cad modeling
