As the first dedicated user experience researcher on the design team, you will help your team of designers, product managers, and engineers better understand our users and their needsYou will focus on the question, “how do we better understand our users and their needs and motivations?” and iterate based on user feedbackThe scope of your work will range from broad, exploratory research to inform product and company direction, to more focused studies, ranging from how to create healthy communities that support people`s passions to how to help shoppers make the best purchase decisions.
You will coordinate, design, and conduct qualitative and quantitative studies, and share your findings with the wider company, so that everyone has a common understanding of who our users are and the problems we’re trying to solveTo do this well, you’ll need to have experience with interviews, moderated usability tests, and surveysIt helps to also be familiar with other methodologiesIf you’re comfortable with quantitative data – you can analyze info in google analytics or similar tools – even better!
Your work won’t end in just a written report or a nice drawing – your recommendations will impact over 100 million peopleYou will also have the support of the entire design teamYour primary focus will be user research, but we’re a fairly flat team that values learning, so if you’re interested in learning about or participating in other areas of design, there will be opportunities to do so.
The team moves at a fast but manageable pace and will experiment often, so if you enjoy a less-structured environment that encourages you to explore, learn, and push your limits (in a good way), you will have fun.
Experience launching and growing successful consumer products
You can take a vague problem statement such as `redesign the x experience` and know what to do with it
3+ years of user research experience, working directly with software engineers, designers, and marketers
Experience with rapid prototyping and experimentation
Interest in forums and online communities
Able to travel between canada and the us periodically
