We are seeking a on-call cultural resource specialists (archaeologists) for various field and office assignments to assist with environmental compliance, surveys, writing and monitoringWork will include both one-day and multi-day assignment within the southwest region (primarily in arizona) and occasional work opportunities in the pacific and great basin regionsApplicants who are permitted or permittable as a field director/crew chief to work on agency lands (i.eBlm, usfs, etc.) within the state of arizona will be preferredApplicants should be available to conduct fieldwork throughout the western u.s., with a focus on the southwest area.
Compensation and benefits
On-call positions are non-exempt (hourly) and are not eligible for benefits such as healthcare insurance, paid time off, etcTravel will be required for most projectsWhen working multi-day assignments, employee will be reimbursed for meals, lodging, and mileage, if applicableWe anticipate employment to begin as early as mid-april 2021 for on-call assignments throughout the field season.
Wage is negotiable based on qualifications and relevant experience.
Location:
This position may be remote and will be based out of our arizona office in mesa, though work is expected throughout the southwest and surrounding regions.
Responsibilities:
Conducting cultural resources inventory.
Conducting archaeological testing and excavation
Site and isolate recordation
Construction monitoring
Acting as crew member or field director/crew chief on fieldwork assignments
Assist in conducting literature reviews/records searches
Drafting report and site form documents
Work will mostly consist of field work, with potential opportunity for office work
Skills and requirements:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in archaeology or closely related field
Proficiency in arizona prehistoric and historic archaeology
Proficiency in southwest archaeology
Proficiency in arizona report writing and site form preparation
Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable, and trustworthy
Proficiency with standard field equipment and technology
Minimum one year professional experience in archaeology or cultural resource management
Successful applicants should be capable of working long days in the field throughout the year, including single- and multi-day assignments
Experience in the following is preferred:
Strong writing and editing skills
Proficiency in archaeology throughout the western united states
Familiarity with typical utility operations and maintenance activities
Familiarity with compliance inspection contracting for large projects
Familiarity with esri arcgis applications (including collector and survey123)
Previous nhpa, nepa, ferc and/or other cultural or environmental trainings
Excellent navigation skills and good driving record
Experience driving a four-wheel drive vehicle off-road or in rough terrain
Experience working around heavy machinery and communicating with construction crews
