Overview: the department of mechanical engineering offers undergraduate and graduate programs in human factors engineering and mechanical engineering with over 350 students enrolled in our academic programs each yearThe mission of the department is to graduate students with a sound basis for professional practice and a career in lifelong learningWe do this through classroom experiences, individual advising, research opportunities, and open-ended, hands-on experiencesWhat you`ll do: the student advisor advises and counsels students on academic program of study; monitors student academic progress and identifies students of concernWrites and updates orientation and resource materialsResearches and coordinates technology improvements for student records and processes.
This position will coordinate faculty advisors and advises and counsels students on academic programs of study in human factors engineering and mechanical engineeringReporting to the department chair, this role includes aspects of advising, administration, and leadership.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitoring student academic progress, and identifying students of concern
Supporting admissions, student communications, and academic certification efforts
Managing department transfer of credit, independent studies, course support, student awards, and software licenses
Researching and coordinating technology improvements for student records and processes
Writing and updating departmental orientation and resource materials`
What we`re looking for: basic requirements:
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a bachelor’s degree in science, math or engineering preferred
Experience in academic advising, mentorship or education
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s degree in stem or education disciplines
