Lead engineer, mechanical design (reactor core & components) (#li-remote)
The rcc lead design engineer reports to the mechanical design senior manager in central engineeringThe rcc lead reports to the core design project engineer within the natrium projectThis is a position focused on the integrated core design and design of individual core components, including integrating the efforts of partner and subcontractor organizationsThe successful candidate will integrate and coordinate with engineers working on interfacing systemsThe rcc lead design engineer will work as part of a high-performing team of engineers and scientists focused on developing systems of next generation reactors and other highly technical projects.
Responsible for coordinating geographically diverse design team members to develop supporting design documentationThe design team members include terrapower employees, subcontracted resources, partner employees, and customers.
Design of systems, sub-systems, and components from requirements through final design.
Coordinate analyses, such as thermal-hydraulics, seismic, structural, fuel performance, neutronics, and other analyses performed by others required for the core design.
Provide the interface with fuel performance, manufacturing development, and fuel handling deign efforts.
Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes such as asme, ans, etc.
Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers in applicable nuclear and non-nuclear related design standards.
Analyze and apply regulatory criteria and standards to a complex system design.
Lead planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities.
Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages including but not limited to 3d models, core component drawings and specifications and system interface drawings.
Interface with the design team to create and manage the integrated core designs, including but not limited to fuel management, multidisciplinary design evaluations, and value-based trade-offs of design choices.
Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, working with the contract administrator to ensure delivery of data and other deliverables to meet terrapower requirements, as well as coordination and performance of technical reviews of deliverables.
Establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, including but not limited to, engineering design specifications for major plant equipment.
Propose testing programs for equipment qualification, as needed
Generate design package for key systems and sub-systems including coordination of calculations, design reports, drawings, and engineering design specifications.
Develop and review technical design documents, such as system requirements documents, system design descriptions, interface control documents, engineering design specifications, etc.
Interface with and support licensing activities associated with safety analysis reports.
Lead design reviews as system and subsystem designs are established and refined.
Key qualifications and skills
B.sOr higher in mechanical, nuclear, or related discipline from an accredited university and 8+ years (senior engineer), or 12+ years (principal engineer) direct experience with proven systems skills.
Demonstrated experience in leading design of complex structures and equipment in high temperature and multi-discipline integration.
Previous experience with nuclear reactor fuel systems, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar system design is highly
Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence.
Candidate must be a self-starter and possess ability to coordinate and lead a design team’s effort with minimal direction.
Ability to handle projects that include many competing objectives and design constraints, with ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
Ability to work on multiple simultaneous tasks that require a multi-disciplinary approach.
Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as asme nqa-1 or iso 9001 is desired
Experience in integrated core design highly desired
