Strategic analysis has an immediate opening for a staff engineer or staff scientist responsible for executing multi-disciplinary analysis of renewable energy-related systemsThe opening is sourced out of our arlington, va office but may be conducted 100% remotely from outside the office.
We seek stellar applicants able to provide multi-disciplinary analysis (typically a blend of electrochemistry, material science, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering) on a variety of cutting-edge issues focused on fuel cell power generation and associated alternative energy systemsTypical clients include the department of energy and automotive & energy industries.
The position is entry-level, and the candidate will work with senior staff in conducting techno-economic analysis which involves technical evaluation, conceptual design, system and 1st principles performance modeling, market/business-case analysis, and design for manufacturing & assembly (dfma) capital cost estimation of advanced/emerging technology energy systemsTasking, responsibilities, and pay will be aligned with the successful applicant’s experience and capabilitiesThe position requires strong technical communication skillsThe selected candidate will be required to draft reports and technical journal articles and potentially present to clients and at conferences.
The ideal candidate will be an intellectually curious self-starter capable of working independently with a capacity and willingness to work outside of their field of training.
Staff engineer/scientist requirements
Must be a us citizen
Engineering or other physical science degree: mechanical, electrical, materials, or chemical engineering, or physics degree preferred
Strong interest in alternative energy systems and/or manufacturing science
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Self-motivation: ability to work both independently and as a team player
Familiarity with system performance estimation/analysis
Microsoft word, powerpoint & excel skills
Additional strongly desired experience and qualifications:
Master’s degree with 2+ years experience
Experience with techno-economic analysis (tea) and life cycle analysis (lca)
Experience with alternative energy systems preferred (particularly fuel cells, hydrogen generation)
Experience with system performance modeling and analysis
Experience with capital cost estimation methodologies (e.g., dfma)
Experience modeling or programming using python, databases, aspen/hysys, and cad
Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, methods, and practices
Assist in design for manufacture and assembly (dfma) cost analysis
Assist in creation of system layout drawings/schematics
Assist in system performance calculations
Assist in obtaining component/material price quotations
Assist in report and presentation preparation
Assist in database creation and maintenance
Assist in preparation of python and excel modeling
Assist in alternative energy marketplace research
