The market development role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships in the canadian technology ecosystem, including early stage start-ups, growth companies, partners and key influencersThey will also act as a key mentor to early stage companies and identify opportunities to address their business needsWhere possible, the manager, market development will support and/or author thought pieces and insights around the canadian innovation economy to broaden svb’s presence and contributions in the market.
Build and expand relationships in market with key influencers and early stage companies in the canadian technology ecosystem
Attend relevant industry events representing the svb team
Host curated svb events with key industry players, including investors, influencers and companies
Provide drop-in sessions/office hours at partner accelerators/incubators to mentor start-ups
Act as an advisor to early stage companies with a view to increasing the probability of their success; leverage svb capabilities and/or global relationships as necessary
Support and author thought pieces around the innovation economy
Source and track progress of early stage (pre seed and seed) companies and founders
Make thoughtful introductions for founders, market influencers, board members, angel and venture capital investors to drive goodwill on behalf of the svb brand
Establish, develop and refine objectives and approach to canadian partnerships with accelerators and incubators, leveraging best practices in other svb markets, and in-market needs
Identify and source potential strategic partners in the canadian market with a focus on roi
Lead and execute potential strategic partnership deals and sponsorships with key accelerators and incubators in the canadian market
Lead and support internal projects which will contribute to the broader growth of the canadian business
Provide input to ongoing internal initiatives, including providing “voice of customer” insights as an input to strategic initiatives
Support internal business case/ strategic planning process, required
Support the hiring of new team members in the canadian office
Skills and competencies
Strong attention to detail, communication, and analytical skills
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is excited to build the svb business in canada and will contribute to internal projects to support our broader growth.
Education and experience
The ideal candidate will have 3-4 years of experience with a background in finance (debt and/or equity), an operator within a start-ups, and/or similar roles.
We are looking for an individual who has experience and deep relationships in the canadian innovation space.
