Full job description
The design engineer is the lead role for all technical and design work for a signal energy project from conceptual design until final completion of the projectThe design engineer is responsible for understanding and coordinating the work of all disciplines and managing the relationship with external eors (engineers of record) to ensure cohesive design documentation that clearly communicates how the project should be builtThis role is responsible for the development, documentation, and management of the engineering decisions and deliverables to support a high-quality project, on time, and on budget.

Responsibilities:
Represent signal from a technical perspective to owners and customers
Own signal’s relationship with the engineer(s) of recordOversee design, manage requests for information, perform quality checks, and drive value engineering efforts
Develop high quality design documentation (drawings, pvsyst models, product specifications, commissioning plans, test results, calculations, and other technical documents as necessary) to communicate the project design to the client, ahjs, and sub-contractors, and ensure compliance with applicable codes
Review and manage design documentation for all disciplines (electrical, structural, civil, scada/das, bess (battery energy storage systems), hv, etc.) to ensure proper coordination between disciplines
Seek out and capitalize on cost and time saving opportunities to drive project efficiency
Develop and document selection and placement of photovoltaic modules, dc components, inverters, panelboards, switchgear, battery storage, medium and high voltage equipment
Coordinate with business development, estimating, scheduling, and procurement to collectively build competitive proposals that set signal up for long term project success
Work with external technical resources such as drafters, engineering consultants, and equipment suppliers to deliver cohesive and cost-effective design packages
Review, understand, and work within the contracted sow, commissioning requirements, performance testing requirements, budget, and schedule
Utilize available systems and tools (acad templates, internal excel tools, and pvsyst models) to efficiently deliver design documentationStay up to date on improved system capability and contribute to process improvement
Support the project team and drive the schedule for submitting drawings and other documentation to obtain permits, seek bids, specify equipment, and hit contract milestones.
Participate in descoping calls with subcontractors to ensure proper understanding of design and collect valuable input
Stay up to date on new and innovative technology and integrate concepts into design plans.
The role will require occasional travel for both office meetings and field visits to active construction sites, requiring ppe (personal protective equipment)
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a similar technical field (electrical engineering preferred) from an accredited university
3+ years’ experience in planning, design, and/or operations of photovoltaic systems
Engineering in training (eit), professional engineer (pe) license, or pmp certification is preferred
Skills to be successful:
Comfort with the technical aspects of the job as well as business and client interactions.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including ability to write clear and detailed technical reports, presentations, and emailsProject management skills are preferred.
Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment as well as work on self-directed independent projectsMust be self-motivated and self-accountable with the ability to balance multiple projects under tight deadlines.
Business acumen, project budget management experience, and proven ability to target value engineer a design
Proficiency in autocad, microsoft word, excel, and outlookPreferable to also have experience with etap, pvsyst, civil3d, helios3d, sam, and procore.
Work environment:
Work will be conducted from the chattanooga office or remotely from a home office
Design engineers report directly to an engineering manager
Travel will be required for office meetings and visits to project sites, 10-20%
