Position description:
The isp engineer performs inside plant infrastructure design, network engineering, and consulting servicesEngineers will develop, implement, and maintain large, extremely complex networks, provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members in day-to-day activities, interface regularly with business units and serve as a technical smeThe isp engineer is expected to be able to apply experience and knowledge to achieve expected outcomes when guidelines, processes, and procedures do not exist and recommend new and/or improvements to documentation where needed.
The isp engineer:
Minor network engineering – provisioning equipment and designing network (commercial building, osp switch, central office, data center) may involve a cabinet in a residential area.
Isp/installation – placing a shelf in the central office – inside a cabinet or central office
Creates spec packages and network designs using a variety of software including m6 (metasolv), excel, and visio or equivalents.
Coordinates, plans, and executes work orders for fielding and/or design of networks while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.
Conducts site surveys to verify equipment locations, cable routing, and verify other critical assignments, equipment layouts, design drawings, written instructions, cable running list, installation sequences for various customer applications.
Performs research to identify, document, and design shelf location, rack space, cable path, power requirements, and any required rearrangements of isp network infrastructure to meet client needs.
Interprets general designs, data, and notes and applies established design guidelines, processes, and procedures.
Develop and report standard engineering intervals based on customer-required service dates, material availability, and work effort from design through integration.
Demonstrates technical ability, professional judgment, and communication skills to attend and contribute to customer discovery calls and status meetings.
Familiar with software compatibility requirements of various equipment including cisco, calix c7/e3-48/e7/e9’s, adtran ta5000/ta3000 dslams, fujitsu flashwave 9500, etc.
Provides individual and team training for most/all isp functional duties; reviews work of new team members as needed during the learning period.

Education or experience: education or experience: batchelor’s degree and a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in the isp network engineering fieldsManagement may consider other combinations of education and experience as needed.
Ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics.
Able to read and interpret test results to confirm successful turn-ups.
Knowledge of installation, quality, and safety procedures.
Able to work independently and report on performance to management
Strong technical knowledge and skills.
Ability to learn and operate customer-based proprietary software and other computer systems to expedite and facilitate the work order process.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Basic financial skills to assist in making sound business decisions.
Able to work in all weather conditions.
Willing to travel overnight during the week.
Dependable transportation and valid driver’s license and insurance.
Able to pass a background check/drug test/driving record check.
Computer literate – especially microsoft word, excel, outlook.
Authorized to work in the united states.
Physical requirements:
Must be able to endure frequent/lengthy: driving, standing, walking long distances (5 miles or more in a day), navigating rough terrain on foot and lifting/balancing objects that may weigh up to ~20 lbsAnd require the use of upper extremities and back muscles.
Must be able to endure frequent, lengthy periods of sedentary work and sit for prolonged periods of time, including sitting at a desk and driving in a vehicle.
Must be able to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone for prolonged periods of time.
Must have the physical ability to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing notes, and viewing a computer terminal; these activities require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Must have the physical ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, often in a group setting.
Must have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
