N&h systems works with our nutrition & health and industrial clients to provide specialized processing solutions and services to help them produce their products and ingredients.
We design and build, (and provide aftermarket support for), solutions ranging in value from several thousand us dollars, to multi-million us dollars for large greenfield projectsA typical large project system project incorporates approximately 2,500 valves, 500 pumps, homogenizers, and one or more technologies, (examples: uht, spray dryer, oils/butter making equipment, powder blending equipment).

Position summary
Spx flow are recruiting for a process engineer, with expertise in spray drying technology to join our getzville, ny office as part of the spx flow global spray drying and evaporation technology team.
This role is intended for someone with prior experience in spray drying technologyTraining (on spx flow tools and methods) will be provided to the successful candidate based on their current experience and future development needsRemote based positions will be considered, preference will be given to getzville based engineers.
Job summary
Working on both projects and bid proposals, the spray drying technology engineer is responsible for the process design of equipment systems, or parts thereofThe process engineer is responsible for:
Developing a process design which meets the requirements of the proposal or project
Ensuring design phase outputs are delivered in line with the time schedule and quality requirements
Providing technical support regarding process design aspects throughout project and bid lifecycles
Undertaking other technical tasks as required (e.gSite surveys, feasibility studies, support to sales, etc)
In general, the process engineer will work as part of a team and will collaborate closely with other team members and functional disciplines to ensure successful delivery of the project or bid scope.
Principal duties and responsibilities
The primary role will be to undertake process engineering design tasks on projects or proposalsThe process engineer’s duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Safety & environment
Ensuring that, with respect to the scope of works for which spx flow are responsible:
Plant designs are safe
Environmental impacts of designs have been considered appropriately
Ensuring compliance with local legislation and regulations (for the locality of the plant/process) which apply to engineering design (e.gUsda / fda / pmo regulatory requirements)
Acting in a safe fashion, particularly when operating outside of the known office environment (e.gOn customer and supplier sites)
Process design tasks
Generating process solutions and defining their characteristics in terms of:
Process flowsheets
P&id diagrams
Equipment specifications
Functional design specifications
Process operating instructions
Kpis / expected performance
Product input/output requirements
Utilities requirements
Completing design calculations (e.gPipe diameter sizing, pump sizing, mass balance, thermal calculations, etc) to support process design and equipment selection
Design ownership
Ensuring that the design, for which they are responsible, is functional, and is executed in line with legislation, regulations, customer contractual requirements and spx flow standards and best practices:
Ensuring that design output is complete, documented, and of a consistent standard.
Ensuring all scope elements/sub-systems for which they are responsible integrate coherently and that external interfaces are clearly understood and defined
Considering economic factors with a view to ensuring that the overall project is delivered on budget
Communication & team working
Participating in technical discussions with customers and suppliers
Attending relevant project or proposal meetings with customer or internally.
Supporting other disciplines (engineering, supply chain, electrical/automation), during the design phase, to achieve project or proposal deliverables e.g.
Supporting installation & commissioning team during the site execution phase through combination of offsite and/or onsite support
Assisting with hand-over of design information to aftermarket team

As a member of the global spray drying and evaporation engineering team, the engineer will be expected to actively participate in the wider technical community and provide support to colleagues, including:
General technical support
Acting as a “subject matter expert” in areas where they have appropriate experience and partake in knowledge sharing as required
Supporting staff in areas where they are inexperienced
Providing general technical support outside of the specific projects/proposals for which they are responsible.
Continuous improvement
Providing input into continuous improvement initiatives (e.gTools development, standardisation)
Documenting and communicating “lessons learned”
Involvement in knowledge sharing initiatives (e.gDocumenting best practices)
Knowledge, skills & abilities
Fluent english – both spoken and written
Good communication skills
Ability to work on multiple tasks, within a matrix environment
Ability and willingness to work and build relationships with colleagues across multiple functions and geographically diverse sites
Good analytical and problem-solving skills
Good initiative and ability to work independently
The ability to meet high performance standards in a team whilst maintaining ethics and integrity
Education and experience
Degree level qualification in appropriate engineering discipline (e.gProcess, chemical, mechanical)
Engineering design experience in dairy, food, beverage, pharmaceutical and/or other hygienic industries
Understanding of hygienic design principles, particularly relating to process engineering design
Experience / understanding of systems designed for clean-in-place (cip)
Experience of working within a technically oriented team beneficial
Full driving license a strong advantage
Good level of competence in microsoft office (word, excel, outlook)
Experience of autocad beneficial
Sap experience beneficial
