Purpose
The senior automation engineer is responsible for our automation and controls systems involving programmable logic controllers (plc’s) for all locations within roseburgTo design and implement manufacturing technology to automate production processes and equipment and develop and direct production operations from an equipment and process troubleshooting standpoint as well as implement production efficiency improvements.
Roseburg is open to filling this position in springfield, or or dillard (western regional office), or.
Key responsibilities
Responsible for scoping project work for control systems and upgrades to equipment, developing user and design requirements, selecting equipment vendors or completing the technology design and equipment build in-house
Manage the installation of automation while ensuring safety, and validating the automated system for adherence to requirements and intended system operation
Direct controls technicians and/or automation engineers in situations where troubleshooting or technology may fall outside of their area of expertise
Interact with production supervisors/managers to identify areas to improve equipment throughput, flexibility, quality, safety, and/or reliability
Set technical standards and direct work flows for safety and quality improvement initiatives
Program plcs, hmis, and inspection systems
Manage a large capital project or multiple small capital projects concurrently
Manage the budget for a large capital project or multiple small capital projects and proactively identify opportunities to reduce the overall project cost
Design and implement modifications to the existing manufacturing equipment needed to improve operational efficiencies
Design, install, and validate the automated control system for new or upgraded utilities systems, compounding processes, and filling and packaging equipment
Compose functional requirement specifications (frs) for new or upgraded utility systems, compounding processes, and packaging equipment
Generate and revise standard operating procedures
Lead manufacturing non-conformance investigations and apply good engineering practices to reduce the risk of repeat non-conformance`s
Implement corrective and preventative actions to improve manufacturing’s operational efficiencies
Perform risk assessment and risk mitigation activities using systematic tools
Seek out new technologies to enhance the plants capability in control systems
Perform training and knowledge sharing with team members to strengthen department skill set
Assists in capital planning for control systems replacement/upgrades
Coordinates contractor assistance as needed and requested
Leads and directs in resolving problems with control systems and complex automation system
Travel of 40-50% is typical

Required qualifications
Fifteen (15) or more years’ experience in automation and process control systems and techniques
Experience with wonderware and factorytalk view
Experience in plc programming with any of the following plc’s; allen bradley, modicon, ge fanuc, siemens, mitsubishi
Ability to read and create logic and flow diagrams
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment
Preferred qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical, or computer science)
Professional engineer
Experience with logic auto-generation from templates
Exposure to highly automated/technical equipment in a manufacturing environment
Prior experience in wood products
Prior manufacturing experience in 24/7 operations
Adept with programming languages (visual basic, java, python, c++)
Experience with machine vision control systems
Sql database, historian design, configuration, setup, and maintenance
Ethernet, controlnet, devicenet, variable frequency drive and general networking knowledge
