Sourcing engineer (remote) status: exempt (salaried) department: purchasing/supply chain position summary we are looking for an outstanding supply chain professional with a strong background in sourcing materialsThe ideal candidate will work with the supply chain management team to define the global sourcing strategy and develop relationships with suppliers as well as the company’s manufacturing and worldwide design organizationsThis position will be responsible for materials management, inbound and outbound logistics, and achieve cost, quality, and delivery targetsThe candidate will lead and develop the global sourcing function by driving material cost reductions, improving supplier management and increasing supply assurance and supplier quality to meet / exceed company goals.
Core duties and responsibilities
Develop improvements to vendor relationship management, sourcing of new vendors, sourcing of new components, tooling, etc.
Increase dual sourcing on key components
Identify key parts for which it is crucial to have alternate suppliers
Simplify the supply base by defining parameters to select “preferred suppliers” and incorporate the use of these suppliers into new product processes
Reduce the supplier base through analyzing each commodity for consolidation potential and utilizing distributors who consolidate multiple manufacturersCommodities include electronics, packaging and electromechanical, plastic and metal parts.
Increase kanban by establishing logistic agreements, including negotiating terms and conditions to ultimately get suppliers to agree to do kanban.
Determine quantities and timing of materials to control inventory flow to the prototype floor and ensure continuity of supply in transitioning to production schedules.
Responsible for the timely acquisition of material and work scheduling to meet the company’s advanced sourcing planAnalyze pre-production purchasing requirements to generate and manage purchase orders and work orders for engineering demands.
Education and experience
Bachelor`s degree in engineering
Two 2+ years of progressive experience in global, sourcing, materials management / logistics
Fluent bi-lingual abilities in spanish or german/french highly preferred
Excellent communication skills required
Outstanding negotiation skills and excellent analytical ability to identify and exploit key opportunitiesPrevious experience in contract manufacturing environment is a plus.
Previous background using six sigma methodologies and lean manufacturing preferred
Have a track record of proven success in cost reduction and productivity improvement using innovative approaches to supply chain management preferred
Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilitiesThis may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.
