Moss cape is seeking an experienced junior vm engineer to identify and solve virtual server requirements, operating the vsphere console, utilize other monitoring tools for a 250 vm production environmentThis individual plays a supporting role in developing plans for future infrastructure projectsDaily duties include ensuring windows, linux and vmware appliances are online, vm hosts performance is nominal and monitoring server snapshots.
This position reports to the enterprise production services task and is in department of state chief technology officeResponsibilities:
Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etcIn accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
Provides information by answering questions and requests from developers or program managers
Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle where databases are involved
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
Perform feasibility analysis on potential future projects for the client and contract managers
Assist in the evaluation and recommendation of database software packages, application integration and testing tools
Qualifications:
Education:
Bs degree in computer science/ electrical engineering or equivalent experience
Required knowledge/experience:
Working knowledge of vmware version 6.0 or higher, experience with nsx-6 is a plus
Knowledge of nsx firewall security principals and concepts
Experience in virtual servers using windows 2012 and higher operating systems
Knowledge of active directory
Experience in analyzing vm host capacity and resource limits
Understand the application of security standards to vm configurations
Excellent communication skills and being able to work independently or in a team
Preferred knowledge/experience:
Proven understanding of solutions to back-up virtual servers such as avamar
Experience using vmware to support mission critical datacenter applications, vmotion, site migration, disaster recovery
Knowledge of aws cloud services
Understand how to use event logs to troubleshoot and determine the root cause to issues
Working knowledge of splunk
Security clearance:
Top secret, sci eligible
Other responsibilities:
Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of the department/contract
Perform other duties as assigned
Must comply with all federal covid-19 related vaccination and testing requirements, including, but not limited to, those set out in executive order 14042
