Kairos power llc is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environmentThis goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (fhr) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.
Kairos power, llc is seeking a highly motivated licensing engineer intern with education in nuclear engineering or environmental engineeringIn this role, you will contribute to the development of the site characterization and environmental assessment for an fhr demonstration projectThe licensing intern will work in close supervision with the licensing team and company consultants in the conduct of activities associated with preparing the site environmental report (er) and preliminary safety analysis report (psar).
Prepare licensing and engineering related reports documenting environmental and site characterization results
Support onsite activities such as site characterization and associated logistics
Interface with subject matter experts and company consultants as needed to develop and complete assignments
Other duties as assigned.
A nuclear engineering or environmental engineering student who has completed at least 2 years toward completion of a bachelor’s degreeBachelor’s, master’s and phd students are encouraged to apply, as well as students in closely related engineering fields (environmental science, civil engineering, etc)
Collaborative team player with excellent verbal and written communication/presentation
Requires access to transportation to the east tennessee technology park in oak ridge
Experience with environmental assessment or nuclear licensing
Experience with site characterization activities such as hydrology, geology, meteorology
Experience with writing and coordinating content for large technical reports
Physical & environmental conditions
Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Communicating with others to exchange information.
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Outdoor environment or elements such as precipitation and wind
Must be willing to work a minimum of 10 weeksThis is a paid internship.
