BACKGROUND :

The seven - year , Market - Oriented Dairy ( MOD ) Project funded by U.SDepartment of Agriculture`s Food for Progress program supports farmers and enterprises to meet the increased demand for dairy and aims to catalyze sustainable growth in Sri Lanka`s dairy sector The project will increase productivity and expand the trade of milk and milk products in Sri Lanka In partnership with the private and public sector , the project will increase milk production of participating farmers and farms to 102,429 metric tons by 2024The project will also ensure 80 percent of beneficiary farmers are earning a price premium due to milk quality .
GENERAL OBJECTIVES :
The Finance Officer will support the Finance and Operations Specialist to accomplish various financial and administrative tasks on a daily basis The Finance Officer will also provide financial information to management by analyzing accounting data and preparing reports This is a full - time ( 40 hours per week ) position based at the MOD Colombo field office with travel to the regional offices as required The Finance Officer will report to the Finance and Administration Director .
RESPONSIBILITIES :
The Finance Officer will support the Finance and Operations Specialist in carrying out the following tasks in order to meet the above objectives .
Prepare payment checklists , make sure all backup documents are complete , accurate , and in order and obtain necessary approvals ; Assist in processing payment vouchers ; Maintain tracking systems of utility payments , office leases , service contracts , consultant agreements , and other contractual documents ; Assist in payment distribution to program vendors and service providers ; Assist in proper maintenance of financial hard binders and electronic filing system ; Scan payment vouchers on a regular basis ; Enter transactions into QuickBooks Online ( QBO ) when required and upload all payment documents in QBO and SharePoint on regular basis ; Analyze accounting data and provide reports when required ; Assist in preparation of monthly field fund requests ; Provide support in the standard procurement process of the project ; Maintain accurate and organized records for external audit ; Complete other tasks as assigned by the Finance & Operations Specialist and Finance & Administration Director
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor`s degree in Finance / Accounting and / or part qualification from a recognized professional body Good understanding of QuickBooks accounting system 5+ years of accounting experience in non - profit transaction processing Sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ) , policies and procedures Experience with international NGOs and experience with U.Sgovernment funded programs preferred Must be computer literate in the use of Microsoft Office products such as Excel , Word , Power Point and Outlook and particularly in the use of Microsoft Excel ( must ) Ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures S / he must have excellent interpersonal , communication , and writing skills in English Fluency in local languages Sinhala and / or Tamil will be an advantage ; and Ability to travel domestically .
