The director, employment law will provide employment law advice and counsel across iqvia globallyThe position can be based in durham, north carolina, plymouth meeting, pa, parsippany, nj, or the boston, ma area, or be remote, in any case with expected travel to various u.sSites as needed, pandemic permittingIt will report to iqvia’s vice president, associate general counsel and chief compliance officer.
The responsibilities of the director, employment law include:
Work closely with human resources, the business, and other company functions to support execution of the business strategy in a practical and compliant manner; serve as a legal advisor providing advice on a range of employment law matters including: hiring, onboarding, leaves of absence and accommodations, performance management, discrimination, harassment, reorganizations, employment policy development and implementation, wage and hour issues, worker classifications/contingent workers, restrictive covenant agreements, covid procedures, “future of work,” diversity and inclusion, and employee relations matters
Support continuous improvement of processes and procedures to drive efficiency across businesses, regions, functions, and the global enterprise by acting as employment law resource on various teams
Coordinating with iqvia functions such as the ethics and compliance office, human resources, legal, finance, quality, and internal audit, conduct and provide counsel regarding employment-related investigations
Draft agreements, including severance, separation, restrictive covenant, retention, and other employment-related agreements
Review, assess, and enforce restrictive covenant agreements
Provide counsel regarding works council and labor matters
Represent iqvia, working with outside counsel as appropriate, with respect to employment-related disputes, including negotiation, mediation, and litigation
Manage outside counsel including as to expenses and strategy
Conduct due diligence of employment-related aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures and support related integration efforts
Draft and/or review documents, including correspondence with opposing counsel, position statements, mediation statements, pleadings
Review reductions in force
Monitor global, federal, state, and local legal developments and advise on compliance with same
Create and deliver management and employee training programs as needed
Assist with responses to subpoenas and personnel file requests
Conduct legal research and analysis of complex legal issues
Oversee paralegal work as needed
Engage in legal department and employment law group project-related work
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
Jd, bar admission and minimum of seven years of combined firm and in-house employment law experience
Excellent judgment, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Strong organizational, project management, communication, presentation, and influence skills
Self-starter with a strong work ethic, high-level of professionalism, and team-oriented approach
Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across all levels of a large, complex organization
Ability to approach and solve complex legal scenarios in a thoughtful, creative, and analytical fashion
Ability to explain complex legal concepts to business partners, provide practical advice, build consensus, and collaborate with clients to address business needs in a fast-paced environment
Strong business acumen and pragmatism
Global employment law experience (preferred)
Knowledge of life sciences and/or services business (preferred)
Ability to travel as needed
