Gptech is seeking a mechanical engineer to support the department of state (dos) engineering indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (idiq) contractsThe objective of these contracts is to obtain the full range of engineering and administrative expertise necessary to assist and support the dos office of construction management (cm) build and renovate diplomatic facilities abroadThe mechanical engineer will support and assist the program in ensuring the completion of the project in accordance with the contract requirement by providing a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance, management, and technical oversightThis position will be located in the given task order location.
Perform technical inspections of mechanical work, monitor the construction contractor’s quality control program, and review project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance.
Verify that the contractor is performing the required contract work in accordance with the design documents.
Review engineering shop drawings and determine whether the contractor has complied with the final design parameters.
Perform quality assurance tasks, ensure that the construction contractor’s work is properly inspected and that corrective actions take place, ensure that materials meet contract, review contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, and resolve conflicts.
Monitor the construction contractor’s quality assurance and safety programObserve onsite construction and determine whether construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly.
Monitor construction progress via the project schedule and submit weekly progress reports with recommendations based on the technical review of project documents and field inspections.
Perform technical inspections of the mechanical elements of the project.
Determine if coordination with other disciplines is necessary in addition to monitoring ongoing construction work to identify problems or non-compliance with design or contract specifications.
Prepare construction reports detailing construction progress and identify any problem with the construction process related to the incumbent’s area of expertiseAfter problems are discovered, evaluate contractor’s proposed remedyFormulate solutions for the dos project director/construction manager.
Review design documents (drawings and specifications) that the architect/engineer prepares and perform quality assurance for the construction project in the applicant’s technical area of expertise.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the project director and/or contracting officer representative.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university in the united states and a minimum of 7 years’ experience on construction projects
Demonstrated experience in construction management, building automation systems, monitor control and disconnects, general plumbing, water/sewage treatment, power generation, and heating and cooling systems
Experience reading design/construction drawings and ability to understand design narratives and calculations
Experience in interpreting drawings in the applicant’s discipline, understanding how those principals relate with other disciplines
Working knowledge of acceptable products and procedures for onsite construction according to u.sStandards
Knowledge of international codes
Experience working with multilateral or bilateral donors, such as u.sAgency for international development, world bank, millennium challenge corporation, and the u.sTrade and development agency
Experience providing quality assurance for ongoing construction projects
Experience in assessing and responding to requests for information
Experience in reviewing and evaluating design calculations and data from an engineering perspective
Experience with reading design/construction drawings and ability to understand design narratives and calculations
Knowledge of microsoft suite, i.e., powerpoint, excel, and word
- knowledge of construction safety regulations, e.g., em 385-1-1, osha
Ability to obtain and retain a top secret security clearance
Willingness to travel worldwide
Professional engineering registration is preferred
Overseas experience preferred
Ability to provide either proof of covid-19 vaccination or obtain an approved reasonable accommodation for exemption upon employment or december 8, 2021, whichever is later, in accordance with gptech policy
