Reporting to the georgia special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children (wic) nutrition operations program manager, responsible for providing subject matter expertise (sme) related to nutrition policies and practices to provide technical support and development of procedures, guidelines and tools related to nutrition services delivered at the local agencies; reviews local district and clinic operations to evaluate compliance with state and/or federal guidelinesIn addition to generalist nutritional support, serves as a statewide sme lead as needed for a variety of functional areas: food package and design, special formula management, nutrition education and risk assessment.
Provides general technical support for nutrition-related activities related to the wic program to district and local agencies as requested.
Assists with reviews and updates of the procedures manual based on changes to the state and/or federal guidelines to ensure effective and evidence-based delivery of nutrition activities.
Conducts program reviews of local wic agencies to assure compliance with federal regulations and state policies of georgia wic and develops summaries outlining specific corrective action needed by the local agency to comply with state and federal regulations.
Serves as an instructor in various nutrition education programs and as a preceptor to dietetic interns as needed.
Serves as a subject matter expert (sme) for ewic activities related to nutrition services and leads the development of wic nutrition education training programs.
Provides professional coverage for the nutrition operations unit for all specialty areas as needed when assigned sme is not available.
Serves as the sme as needed on the areas described below:
Food package and design
AResponsible for updating the wic approved foods list including; working with food manufactures to identify wic eligible foods, evaluating and approving food items, working through a state committee to make updates to the states afl.
BManages work with contractors (graphics design and web developers) to support revisions of the afl, wic participant training video updates, printing and distribution of materials.
CUpdates the state’s food package database as required.
DWorks with the wic vendor unit to update products on shelf price survey (quarterly)
EAssist with the development and implementation of relevant guidelines that support the wic food package.
FMonitor food package design quality and analyzes utilization patterns of wic food benefits.
GCharis the wic food package committee.
Special formula management
ACoordinates state level special formula ordering process and system for special formulas and nutritionals.
BWorks with the wic vendor unit to monitor and track special formula cost containment activities.
CManages the wic emory genetics contract.
DManages activities related to the georgia chapter of the american academy of pediatrics (ga aap) contract.
EEvaluates use of district created food packages for special formula and nutritionals during local agency reviews and serves as sme to assist with developing appropriate corrective action plans.
FCharis the wic special formula committee.
Nutrition education / risk assessment
AChairs the nutrition education task force and nutrition education committee.
BCoordinates nutrition education contracts: department of public health shape children’s contract.
CManages the strong4life champions program statewide.
DManages the advanced contract that provides online participant nutrition education through georgiawiconline.
EDevelops and coordinates implementation of statewide nutrition education plan; reviews and works with the wic nutrition services manager to approve nutrition education materials created by districts/clinics to ensure consistency in message, appearance, and format.
FManages the district nutrition services plan (nsp) activities including:
Conducting a needs assessment to identify strengths and weaknesses, including staffing, staff competencies, and nutrition services standard self-assessment.
Establishes goals, measurable objectives, and action steps in line with the wic state plan goals for the local agencies to report on and provide future education plans.
Assess progress toward attainment of nsp goals and objectives from year to year.
Work with wic epidemiologist and data analyst to evaluate effectiveness.
GProvides wic staff at least one statewide value enhance nutrition assessment (vena) training yearly and create opportunities for georgia wic cpas to receive at least 12 hours of nutrition specific continuing education yearly.
HCoordinates required activities to update national nutrition risk criteria based on annual federal policy changes, including updates to ga`s nutrition risk criteria handbook, nutrition questionnaires and high-risk education forms and wic systems.
IServes as the sme with the wic education team to ensure effective statewide implementation and training of the nutrition care process (adime) for staff.
JCoordinates with public health title v block grant activities for statewide obesity initiative as directed.
KResponsible for the development and maintenance of wic 101 trainings intended for wic competent professional authorities (wic cpas).
LManages state level training tracking system to ensure all nutrition education trainings are documented and meets federal requirementsPerforms assessment on training effectiveness to identify areas for improvement and provide insight to on ways to increase training effectiveness.
MLeverages the sates exceed learning management system to schedule, track, and deliver education programs.
NPartners with wic training designer and others to ensure that training material is up-to-date and easy to accessMinimum qualifications
Bachelor`s degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university and four years of experience related to area of assignmentNote: an equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-over-year basis.
Registered with the academy of nutrition and dietetics
Licensed dietician in the state of georgia
Master’s degree with emphasis in and nutrition, community nutrition, public health nutrition, nutrition education, or equivalent
Familiarity with wic program policies and procedures
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interface with internal and external senior leaders
Ability to provide solutions based coaching, guidance and follow up with remote clients
Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills, specifically related to providing quality consultative services, change management and conflict resolution skills
Ability to coach others to set priorities and define action plans and metrics
Strong meeting planning and facilitation skills
Analytical skills with ability to create relevant reports for a variety of stakeholders
Knowledge of patient centered counseling (pce) and ability to teach others motivational interviewing (mi) techniques
Able to work effectively in a high stress, changing environment.
Proficiency in microsoft office products (e.g.., outlook, word, excel)
