Job description summary
This role will demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of core and fuel designIntegrates and develops core component mechanical design, analysis and fabrication technologies, application methodologies, and supporting procedures and processes that meet business needs across the organizationInvolved in long-term planning and coordination with program partnersThis role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within gnf’s and geh’s advanced technology programs.
The preferred work location for this role is at the geh headquarters wilmington, nc but qualified remote candidates will be considered.
Maintain an active role in developing and defining state of the art mechanical design of advanced core and fuel assemblies, incorporating design-to-cost principles, fabrication, licensing, implementation, and lessons learned, in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
Provide technical consultation as required to define technical requirements, design products or services, coordinate programs, and implement solutions in areas related to fuel design and performance throughout the business.
Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
Identify technical risk and champion technical improvement opportunities to enhance fuel rod performance predictions.
Support other ge businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external ge customers using reports, records, and letters.
Advocate and organize design reviews as an effective method of risk mitigation
Provide a single point of contact for program coordination with the core hardware design function
Prepare and review invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
Provide technical guidance, direction, training and mentoring to new and experienced engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops.
Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range design expectations.
Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
Bachelor of science in engineering or physics
At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
At least 5 years of nuclear mechanical design experience
At least 10 years cumulative knowledge of nuclear fuel and core component hardware design, fuel performance technology, manufacturing processes for reactor core applications, mechanical and structural analysis, and fuel/core integrated performance characterization.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive communication capability
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
Leadership to pursue correct engineering process in adverse conditions
Problem analysis and resolution skills
Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one aspect of core component hardware design and analysis, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within fuel/core/plant design function within an nqa-1 compliant organization.
The salary range for this position is $130-180kThe specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work locationIn addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
