Senior environmental reviewer (volunteer)
The environmental review workshop is organizing an online community of volunteer scientists and engineers to review and comment on environmentally sensitive projects during 30-day public comment periods for the regionA ph.dDegree, master's degree with 5 years experience, or bachelor's with 10 years experience equivalent in engineering or sciences is requiredExperience as a consultant, regulator, professional engineer or geologist is preferredThe work includes reviewing documents and engineering plans which are open for public consultation and contributing technical comments for environmentally sensitive projectsThe duties of the senior environmental reviewer include editing and approving the work of junior reviewers for submission to environmental regulatory oversight agencies.
Following is a description of our program:
The environmental protection agency's community involvement process allows citizens the opportunity to comment on projects that impact the environmentHowever many public comment periods receive little if any attention and there is an enormous need for technical commentingOur goal is to fill that need when we comment on projects involving air pollution, water pollution, hazardous waste disposal, and protection of endangered species.
We review documents for consistency with guidelines and regulations, and technical accuracyIf you know about environmental science and regulations, come help us provide public oversight for environmentally sensitive projectsWe comment during the public review stages for industrial permits for air emissions and water discharges, cleanup plans, and development plans with environmental concerns.
