We are currently seeking a full-time codes & standards engineer ii to join our policy and ratings teamThe ideal person selected to fill this position shall have field experience working with energy-efficient technologies, including design, product testing, or installation, and familiarity with energy codes and standardsCandidates for this position should have working knowledge in one or more of the following key technology areas: hvac-r systems, motors and motor driven systems, water heating, white goods, and/or consumer electronicsKnowledge of industry test methods for the above product categories and work experience collecting and analyzing large energy performance datasets is very helpfulStrong excel skills are required, and experience with data science techniques and programming languages including python, ruby, perl, or r is a plus.
As a member of the energy solutions team you will have a broad impact on state and national energy standards, and energy efficiency markets through our work for major north american utilities, city and state governments, and other national leaders in energy efficiency policyThis unique opportunity, paired with energy solutions’ mission driven approach, creates a perfect environment for individuals who want to have an active voice in shaping the energy future in california and beyond.
Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Analysis of energy efficient technologies in the context of energy policy, including development of analyses of product technical potential and feasibility, energy savings, cost-effectiveness, market barriers
Develop product testing plans and oversee testing regimens at accredited test labs for product categories undergoing standards updates
Apply statistical methods to analysis of test data and other product data
Write reports on technical topics in support of codes and standards rulemakings, proposals to change test methods and minimum energy performance standards proposals and other public-facing documents
Engage with industry stakeholders to advance product efficiency goals through codes and standards rulemakings
Support our team in preparing for and participating in public hearings, at the state and national level as well as meetings of national stakeholder groups / working groups and industry committees
Provide oversight and review of supporting staff for quality and compliance
A master’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related field), or a bachelor’s degree with significant engineering work experience
5-8 years of work experience in related area, including in one or more of the following key technology areas: hvac-r systems, motors and motor driven systems, water heating, white goods, and/or consumer electronics.
Knowledge of federal appliance standards program (e.gU.sDoe and epa energy star), california’s title 20 and title 24 energy standards, ashrae 90.1, iecc, ahri test procedures, csa standards, and other energy standards
Demonstrated ability to write reports, technical papers, and provide technical presentations to knowledgeable audiences
Experience energy modeling, including knowledge of energyplus, and experience with large-scale simulations, and data analysis and scripting
Project management experience including budget development and management
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to conduct occasional business travel
Enthusiasm for work within a diverse, collaborative team
