At this time, the general manager will report to the chief executive officerThis position serves as a direct manager to the site(s) leadership teams and editorial staff members.
The duties and responsibilities outlined below include essential functions of the roleDepending on business needs, this role may perform a combination of some or all of the following dutiesDuties, responsibilities, and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
The general manager will be responsible for owning the p&l for their specific site(s), providing the leadership necessary to increase both profitability and efficiency while overcoming challenges and obstacles that may arise, such as decline in traffic, decline in revenue, team member concerns, loss of business to competitors, etc.
The ongoing responsibilities are as follows:
Own the strategic relationship with all shared services and maintain strong relationships with them to ensure your site(s)’s overall success and to make certain that your site(s)’s product plans are aligned with overall endgame360 objectives and goalsShared services include but may not be limited to: technology, finance, ad ops, audience development, editorial support, and people opsThis role is responsible for organizing the site(s)’s shared services needs, prioritizing them, and then coordinating, communicating, and partnering with the applicable shared services to meet them as well as to achieve new initiatives.
Play a key role in establishing editorial vision for the site(s) in terms of article creation and growth opportunities and then developing and implementing action items that would bring it to fruition.
Research competitors on a consistent basis and remain knowledgeable of trends within the market.
Routinely analyze the performance of the site(s) and make recommendations based on trends and opportunities.
Lead in developing the strategic vision of the site(s) as well as goals and objectives for the site(s)Develop and implement business plans and action items to enable your site(s) to achieve the vision, goals, and objectives.
Gain a strong understanding of the reader experience, needs, and wants and assess how the site(s) currently stands in relation to findingsIdentify opportunities as to new ideas that can grow the market share, improve the reader experience, and promote site growthBring ideas to fruition leveraging shared services as needed or as applicable.
Partner with the monetization team in maximizing revenue opportunities of the site(s) without negatively impacting the site(s)’s quality or reader experience.
Manage the financial performance of the site(s) (including its budget) and own the financial metrics of the site(s).
Communicate the vision, goals, and objectives of the site(s) effectively with your team in a way that creates buy-in and develop actionable steps the team can take to win and holds them accountable for results.
Utilize data and other resources available to make sound management and operational decisions.
Manages the day-to-day operations of the site(s) in a way that results in consistent improvements to team culture/work environment, the site(s)’s product, productivity, and its profitabilityThis includes making sure the site(s)’s resources are allocated appropriately according to current business goals/priorities and that the site(s) achieves company goals/objectives.
Develop and implement sops for site(s) and/or tweak company-wide sops to be more site specific (partnering with shared services teams as applicable).
Gather, analyze, and interpret data to prepare regular reports and presentations for upper management based on performance along with action items.
Participate in, facilitate, and lead organized and productive meetings with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Manage the site(s)’s okrs across shared services and ensure the site(s) also achieves its article creation (production) goals.
Maintain an ongoing article creation calendar that reflects any special projects or initiatives the editorial team may capitalize on.
Create a culture on your site(s) that enables and encourages team members to analyze and rely on data insights but also to experiment.
Ensure your site(s)’s content is that of quality as defined by the organization’s standards.
Have routine healthy discussions about programming with editorial leadership to establish and develop content that serves both existing readers and attracts new readersFacilitate business-oriented discussions with editorial leadership as well.
Ensure the site(s) follows all industry and organizational best practices and ethics as well as federal, state, and local laws.
Participate in meetings and calls with team members and external stakeholders, in small and large group settings, utilizing video call technology.
Provide direct leadership to the editorial team on your site(s)Your site(s)’s managing editor(s) reports directly into this positionThis position has a matrixed line to finance, ad ops, audience development, technology, editorial support, and people ops.

Ensure the members of your team have the training and tools they need to be successfulRemove obstacles that may be in the way of their success to the best degree possible.
Partner with managing editor(s) and people ops in creating and delivering performance reviews.
Determine staffing levels needed in order to meet business objectives and partner with finance and people ops.
Demonstrate personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the workplace and towards our readers.
Hire and retain top talent that are passionate about the site(s)’s success and vision, align with the company’s culture and values, reflect the diversity of our audiences, and are committed to personal, professional growth.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3-7 years previous experience growing a business and successfully owning or managing budgets, the p&l for an operation, as well as content monetization and revenue streamsStrong preference will be given to candidates with experience in the digital media & publishing industryExperience in news categories of entertainment and autos a plus.
The final candidate will have many of the following experiences, skills, and personal attributes.
Drive to realize new ways to grow readership and the operation and work with audience development and executive management in bringing them to fruition.
Previous experience effectively managing all aspects of a successful product throughout its lifecycle.
Communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) to different audiences through tools like zoom, slack, asana, and g-suite, as well as other software necessary to perform the role.
Lead in a way that incorporates the company’s vision, mission, values, culture, and results in team members being willing to follow, motivated, and empowered to do their bestThis requires ability to communicate expectations, develop guidelines and standard operating procedures, coach and mentor others, hold individuals and teams accountable, and commitment to creating a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Passion/subject matter expertise in the area of content strongly preferred .

High capacity to direct and adapt to change in a dynamic environment.
Degree in business, marketing, communications, advertising, or a related field preferred but equivalent work experience also considered.
This role’s annual salary will start at $116,000 plus bonusThere is potential for salary to be greater depending on experience, the number of sites to be managed, and scope of business.
