Eaton’s electrical sector and crouse-hinds b-line division is hiring a optical design engineer to join our teamThis position is based at our syracuse, ny or highland, il facilityThe position is eligible for a hybrid work setup.
Position overview:
The position of optical engineer will report to the npi engineering manager and be a subject matter expert for lighting within the crouse hinds businessThe successful candidate will be responsible for continuing development of our luminaire platforms and assisting in the design and implementation of next generation controls technologyThe candidate should be experienced in light tools and other related design tools for optical engineeringThe successful candidate will be a key resource for the npi engineering team in helping to innovate our led luminaire product lines for the next generation of hazardous and industrial lighting.

Lighting design/layout engineering execution:
Design and development of reflective and refractive optical solutions for led luminaires used in harsh and hazardous environments.
Collaborate across engineering disciplines and other functions of the business to ensure products meet schedule, budget, performance, and design for manufacturability (dfm) objectives.
Lead the optical quality testing and product certification strategies for all new and existing products.
Responsible for ensuring the completion of comprehensive design reviews, design analysis & documentation, qualification, and validation testing of work output to meet program/project requirements, specifications, quality/reliability, and successful product release.
Maintain technical leadership skills in subject area through ongoing self-training and company assigned training.
Position impacts roi of npd, vitality of the product line, competitiveness of the offering and hence, the business, customer satisfaction and key strategic growth objectives through technology and product innovation.

Qualifications
Required (basic) qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience
Must be legally authorized to work in the united states without company sponsorship now or in the future.
No relocation benefit is being offered for this positionOnly candidates within a 50-mile radius of the work location will be consideredActive-duty military service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience designing highly specified illumination patterns or optical assemblies
Experience with networked luminaire control systems
Experience with iesna standards and application such as lm-79, tm-21, tm-30,etc.
Experience using mechanical design tools such as solidworks and/or autocad
Familiarity with photometric testing equipment such as goniophotometer and integrating sphere.
Experience in a optical engineering role, specifically illumination, lighting products and/or sensor design
Position criteria:
Experience designing illumination systems to specific brightness and beam shape requirements
Working knowledge of leds, power supplies and optoelectronics for illumination systems
Experience with optical system simulation tools such as lighttools, agi32
