User designer experience/ux designer

General description
Reporting to the senior director, digital presence and content marketing, the user experience designer is part of the web team, which sits within duke health’s marketing and communications departmentThe web team is responsible for the design, content production, enhancement, and development of duke health’s award-winning websites which include dukehealth.org, our patient-facing website; physicians.dukehealth.org, our referring physician-focused website; as well as several other digital properties.
The ux designer works collaboratively within the team and department and with our third-party vendors to combine creative thinking with business requirements, best practices, and sound user research to design the best possible experience for site usersThis individual’s work elegantly and effectively devises solutions for specifically defined opportunities and challenges, while establishing and adhering to larger institutional branding and communications frameworks that create consistency across duke health.

The user experience designer plays a pivotal role in the ongoing iteration and enhancement of our industry-leading websites and their importance in providing an excellent digital experience for our patients and user and in reinforcing duke health’s reputation for medical and scientific excellence.
Duties and responsibilities of this level
Specific expectations include conceiving and designing information architectures, user interfaces, and visual design approaches for a variety of audiences and needs
Guided by market research, testing and customer feedback, and business requirements, conceive of creative yet pragmatic user experiences
Apply research learnings to the creation of journey maps, personas, and other documents that help illustrate and communicate current and future state experiences
Translate concepts into wireframes, mockups, prototypes, etcThat demonstrate and help communicate the intended user experience
Collaborate closely with development teams on the implementation of designed experiences
Work with team members to develop materials for testing concepts
Monitor and apply duke health’s brand guidelines and maintain design and ux/ui consistency across digital properties
Monitor and manage ada accessibility standards on duke health digital properties where appropriate
Manage website survey tool application and reporting—we use greystone’s gsight
When appropriate assist in developing health system wide guidelines and frameworks to bring consistency to experiences
Additional knowledge, skills, and attributes
Be passionate about all things ux and other areas of design and innovation
An established grasp of user-centered design and testing methodologies, subsystems, and usability and accessibility concerns.
Expert skill level with standard design tools such as photoshop, axure, or sketch
Knowledge of tools such as invision and zeplin
Ability to iterate your designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently.
Experience using online user testing platforms – we use usertesting.com
Be excited about collaborating and communicating closely with teams and other stakeholders to regularly deliver design and ux solutions for approval.
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills
Ability to communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions clearly and effectively to teams and clients
Be open to receiving feedback and constructive criticism
Research and showcase knowledge in the industry’s latest trends and technologies
Required qualifications at this level
Education
Bachelor`s degree or equivalent degree in design, human computer interaction (hci), or related field
Experience
5+ years as a user experience designer, interaction designer, or graphic designer
