Job overview (what you’ll do):
Two years ago, cotopaxi brought in-house what was formerly an outsourced human resources functionSo far, we’ve solidified our tech stack, built out our comp structure, set up our benefit plans, rolled out our performance review process, and staffed up with a full-time people ops manager and a full-time in-house recruiter/onboarding specialistWe’ve recently launched our de&i initiative, and begun to develop a structured way to think about our talentBut there is much yet to be done!
Lying ahead on our road map are initiatives that include: updating the employee handbook, solidifying our employee value proposition, kicking off a mentoring and coaching program, building out a succession planning process, establishing a career coaching and development approach and developing and implementing a dei strategy that will enable a diverse and inclusive cultureIn short, you’ll find a rich menu of interesting, impactful challenges to lead.

This role will lead the people operations team, reporting to our chief operations officerCompensation will be commensurate with experience, and will include a bonus plan, stock options and a full benefits packageWe are accepting remote applicants, though we do note that the seniority and people orientation of this role would require periodic onsite time.
Job responsibilities (how you’ll do it):
In partnership with the company’s senior leaders, develop and gain buy-in for people/hr strategies and plans that effectively reinforce and support the company’s mission and strategic vision.
Develop and roll out people/hr initiatives that support the achievement of cotopaxi’s strategic business goals and financial plan objectivesBeing a business focused leader is a key success factor for this position; that means we expect you to understand financials, business processes and functions, and an omni-channel business model.
Develop relationships and work effectively with every level of employeeBe a steward of our culture and values; reinforce it, live it, and grow it as we become a larger and more diverse business.
Provide overall leadership and guidance to the people ops/hr function by overseeing, and building out as required: talent acquisition and onboarding, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, and compensation and benefits.
Provide coaching and guidance to line managers across multiple dimensions of “hr issues” (e.g., feedback, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)Manage and resolve complex employee relations issuesConduct effective, thorough and objective investigations when required.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Partner with managers using our ats (jazzhr), hris (zenefits), engagement (officevibe), and recognition (motivosity) platforms in a self-service capacity to recruit, onboard, pay, manage and motivate employees.
Work closely with senior leadership to continuously improve our work environment, increase morale, reinforce our values, and increase productivity and retention.
Diversity, equity and inclusion:
Oversee all aspects of cotopaxi’s de&i programs.
Partner with the people ops team and line managers to help ensure the processes related to recruiting, training, leadership development, engagement, succession planning, promotions and retention support a talented, high performing, diverse workforce.

Define, institute and execute policies, processes, and programs which support and advance diversity and inclusionStudy, develop and implement training programs to educate employees and offer support and knowledge.
Recognize and respond to company dei needs, issues and initiatives with appropriate tools, assessments and metrics, strategies, best practices and benchmarking to support the needs of the company.
Design and implement tracking strategies, metrics, monitoring and reporting systems to be able to benchmark our progress and measure the effectiveness of our communications and programs.
Collaborate with external facing teams to develop and execute a dei communication strategy that ensures broad and effective communication of our strategy and programs.
Promote and sustain programs that further cotopaxi’s people practices and culture in partnership with operational and business unit leadershipProvide expert knowledge and coaching around inclusive practices to senior leadership.
Job requirements (who you are):
You are a seasoned people operations (aka hr) and de&i professional with a “business first” bias towards data & analytics, who is looking to lead those functions in an exciting, mission driven, growth companyYou’ve got solid and progressively more senior experience across talent management, recruiting & onboarding, comp & benefits, learning & development, hr business partner consulting, dei and the legal/compliance domainsYou`re financially savvy and numbers oriented, and you make sound decisions guided by business priorities and rigorous analysis.
You are a thoughtful and considerate team player who considers culture to be the secret sauce of a successful business, and you’ve got the poise and strategic perspective to be a part of the senior leadership team of a mission focused companyAnd, you’re looking for the perfect place to take who you are and what you know and deploy it towards building a best-in-class people ops and de&i function and team.
Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)A business/hr master`s (or its equivalent) is a big plus.
Have 7+ years of progressive people ops/hr experience.
Have 3-5 years of experience managing dei strategy and implementation.
Are savvy with hr sub-disciplines, such as: compensation and benefits, recruiting and onboarding, learning and development, employee relations, compliance and dei.
Are phr/sphr certified(not a requirement but definitely a big head-turner.)
