Director of cloud operations as a hands-on technical leader, the director of cloud operations (cloudops) is responsible for the strategic planning, architecture design, problem resolution, deployment and management of essential it compute and storage systems supporting corporate and customer facing applicationsThe director will lead efforts on compliance, disaster recovery, scaling, and securing the infrastructureThe environment is a mixture of on-premise, private cloud and public hosting multiple hardware platforms and operating systemsThe director will work closely with lab operations, software development, networking, security, and other corporate teams providing expert guidance on compute, cloud compute, storage, virtualization, and other infrastructure technologiesThe infrastructure service level requirements are high to support a growing 24 x 7 x 365 lab operationThe director will bring structure and disciplined approach needed to manage the infrastructure resources and processes.
Developing, implementing and maintaining compute and storage operations for corporate and customer systems including setting technical strategy, supervising daily activities, project management and developing the team.
Ensuring stability, scalability, resilience, and security of compute and storage resources including disaster recovery planning, architecting for high availability, and hardening systems.
Managing vendors and service providers including cloud infrastructure providers, data center providers, and outsourced services including backup, monitoring, and security.
Collaborating with lab operations, automation, networking, end users and other corporate groups to identify and understand near and long term business directions and requirements for technical infrastructure.
Development of the technology roadmap including identification of differentiating technologies providing cost effective, flexible, and scalable solutions for the business
Developing the compute and storage team technical and leadership skills providing a stable long term resource capability
Desired skills, qualifications, and experience
12+ years of hands-on experience operating a compute and storage infrastructure including on-prem, private cloud, and public cloud environmentsAzure cloud experience is a plus.
12+ years of troubleshooting issues between production applications and infrastructures including server hardware, virtual servers, vdi environments, storage hardware, cloud storage, databases, basic networking, desktop applications, backup, recovery, failover, etc.
Hands-on experience with vmware configuration and administration including troubleshooting production applications
Hands-on experience as a senior linux server system administrator including experience with past releases of centos and ubuntuHands on experience with server hardening, patching and upgrading environments and with environment automation.
Hands-on experience with microsoft’s technology stack active directory including hybrid ad architecture, windows server 2012r2 or 2016, msft azure vdi and azure management.
Hands-on experience with controlling dev, qa, and production environments including application migration following itil change management process.
Solid knowledge of the itil and support for its use in support operations
Understanding of operations in a regulated industry preferably with experience address system requirements for protected health information (phi), or personally identifiable information (pii)
Sound customer service skills across all levels within an organization with an ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical users
