Applied research solutions (ars) is seeking a part-time student software developer/engineer to work on development of advanced product design and modeling & simulation (m&s) capabilitiesThis will include testing and refinement of a new model-based systems engineering (mbse) application framework being developed by ars as an independent research & development (ir&d) programA strong candidate will have experience with product computer-aided design (cad) and m&s tools (e.g., catia, cameo, matlab/simulink), and possess a keen interest in mbsePrimarily working remotely, this software developer/engineer will be given practical experience advancing industry and department of defense (dod) m&s capabilities and will be given the opportunity to lead a trial mbse related design project using the new ars mbse frameworkResults of this trial project will be used to further refine the mbse framework and prepare it for application with our dod customersIn addition to advancing this ars product development, the student will gain valuable experience in working with other ars software developer/engineers in an area of growing importance within the dod.
The software developer/engineer will work between beavercreek and oxford, oh, with flexibility for remote workThe student employee’s primary function will be to assist with model-based systems engineering (mbse) development as well as provide general support to ars m&s activitiesA more detailed summary of job responsibilities and qualification/experience requirements is provided below.
Responsibilities include:
Identify trial product design area for application of new ars model-based systems engineering (mbse) application framework.
Conduct trial design study on identified area using the mbse application framework
Record and report results of this design study to the ir&d program lead engineer
Assist in the software development and refinement of the mbse application framework based upon outcomes of the trial studies
Provide general m&s software application development support as required.
Prepare supporting technical documentation as needed.
Coordinate with others to ensure optimized hardware/software/resource utilization
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/ technical experience requirements:
Must be a us citizen
Must be enrolled as a student at miami university’s college of engineering & computing
Mid- to senior undergraduate or graduate student working towards computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or related degree area with practical computer-aided design (cad) and modeling experience
Model-based systems engineering (mbse) experience is desiredApplicant must have keen interest in mbse.
General software engineering development or experience.
Computer-aided design tool experience (e.g., autocad, catia).
Competence in python, matlab/simulink and/or c++.
Cameo systems modeler software experience is highly desired but not required.
Basic understanding of docker containers, virtual machines, networking and development environments.
Us citizen, able to obtain/maintain at least a secret clearance
Experience writing technical documents
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Demonstrated initiative with product or algorithm development
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
