The senior project manager is responsible for the management of, as well as the delegation of responsibility for, ongoing management and oversight of clinical trial study projectsThe senior project manager assigns new clinical trials study management responsibilities to a designated project manager (pm) or associate project manager (apm)Working closely with the director, project managers, and other project management staff, the senior project manager will direct activities to meet our client’s specifications, ensuring quality deliverables on time and within budgetThe senior project manager will also serve in the capacity of a project manager in the day-to-day management of specific moderate and high complexity clinical trial studies.
Essential duties and other responsibilities
May directly supervise departmental staff including project managers and their respective clinical trials.
Assists in interviewing and hiring of prm staff.
Assists directors and/or departmental managers with process improvement initiatives.
Assist directors with obtaining, developing, and reporting departmental metrics.
Translates client requirements into actions for problem-solving, issue resolution, or providing the requested information; often requires a creative approach to serving client needs while adhering to internal processes and standards.
Serves as project manager for moderate and high complexity clinical trial projects assigned, including client meetings and communications, report development and review, issue resolutions, and budget oversight.
Assigns clinical trial study management responsibilities to project managers, following work requirements to ensure quality and timely delivery of service.
Participates in the conceptual development of clinical trial projects and oversees its organization, scheduling, and implementation.
Liaise with directors and other managers/supervisors on new processes or system developments and remain current on changes affecting operations.
Creates training materials for investigators and internal staff.
Creates maintains and trains staff on departmental sops.
Interfaces with laboratory, customer service, business development, project management, external project management, and information technology, and data management personnel.
Represents labconnect at kick-off meetings, bid defense meetings, budget consultations.
Serves as the primary project contact with sponsors and contract research organizations to ensure appropriate communication channels are maintained and reporting schedules are met.
Serves as an issue escalation contact for the project team within the department.
Performs other related duties and tasks as necessary or as assigned.
Education/experience
Bachelor's degree (b.a./b.s.) from four-year college or university; and three to four years of central laboratory project management experience or related clinical experienceMust be experienced in customer service and possess excellent organization and interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skillsMust be adept at stress management.
Language ability
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulationsAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manualsAbility to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math ability
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volumeAbility to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry related to various scientific calculations required for clinical trials.
Reasoning ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization existsAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a working knowledge of microsoft office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, powerpoint, and ms project.
Certificates and licenses
Certification as an ascp medical technologist and/or registered nurse is preferred.

Supervises employees in the project management departmentIt is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this departmentCarries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable lawsResponsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
