Working with programs, centers, and international offices across wri, you will collaborate to design and deliver new projects where resource watch can create opportunities for real world impactIn this role, you will identify and lead opportunities with key external partners to create on-the-ground environmental and social change and to bolster resource watch’s position as a trusted source for sustainable development data and as a global public goodThe role requires enthusiasm about the opportunities data can offer for sustainable development when put this into the hands of ngos, partners, and decision-makersIt also requires a strong commitment to communication, coordination in a matrixed organization, and timely delivery.
Project management (50%)
Manage cross-institutional resource watch projects by setting and negotiating deliverables with internal and external stakeholders, including evaluation of budget and staff capacity needs
Create detailed program design for impactful and efficient delivery of project outcomes, leveraging domain expertise from wri colleagues internationally
Organize, document, and track progress towards project delivery
Report on progress through internal communications, presentations, and grant reporting to donors
Monitor and evaluate progress towards deliverables and real-world impact, capturing key lessons learned to refine future resource watch project engagement
Develop a culture of learning in project management and design across the resource watch team
Identify well-aligned opportunities to collaborate with wri’s programs, centers, and international offices to turn data into action
Proactively engage with new target audiences, such as users from international organizations, media outlets, and national and subnational governments
Contribute to proposals, cultivate new opportunities and track them in salesforce work with rw's program coordinator and rdi's operations manager to manage the annual budget and relevant grant and contract revenue
Manage activities related to wri’s open data commitment (25%)
Develop and implement an open data outreach strategy
Respond to external requests for access to data or further information
Provide guidelines and training to wri staff on wri’s open data commitment lead programs in the documentation and upload of data onto the open data portal, including quality controlling metadata
Assist in the maintenance of wri’s open data portal, led by core communications
Monitoring and evaluation (20%)
Enhance monitoring and evaluation practices for resource watch, including documentation of user stories and tracking of quantitative metrics
Ensure that lessons learned from our monitoring and evaluation work inform and strengthen new proposals and sharpens the ability for resource watch to deliver impact
Author or co-author knowledge products about our monitoring and evaluation work such as reports, briefs, data products, and blogs
Work with the rw team, the data lab and wri’s managing for results team to contribute to institute-wide efforts in improving monitoring and evaluation practices for wri’s data platforms
Institutional review of data products (5%)
Support the research, data and innovation team in reviewing data products
Master's degree in environmental science, sustainability science, computer science, international development or related field, (or a bachelor's degree in a related field with an additional two years of work experience)
Minimum of five to seven years of full-time work experience working on project management, environmental data, sustainable development or international development
Strong project management experience
Experience working with donors including philanthropic institutions and international development agencies
Excellent written communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organization with the ability to manage competing priorities
Experience with satellite imagery, data visualization tools, and data platforms
Ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical colleagues and partners
Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and the ability to take on new challenges
Interest in working for a mission-driven environmental organization interest in communicating environmental and sustainability data and science
