Job description:
Omitron is seeking a highly qualified candidate to provide satellite communication expertise in support of nasa’s flight dynamics facility (fdf)This facility provides operations support to 30+ satellites in various orbital regimes, identifies tracking data anomalies, certifies ground stations, provides launch and early orbit support, and performs advanced navigation analysesSpacecraft supported include james webb space telescope (jwst), magnetospheric multiscale (mms), tracking and data relay satellite system (tdrss), lunar reconnaissance orbiter (lro), and solar terrestrial relations observatory (stereo), among many others.
Specific areas of support will include:
Conduct and oversee advanced analysis of tracking data measurements.
Providing senior-level leadership and mentoring of junior technical staff
Performing and enhancing ground station validation, calibration, and/or certification
Evaluating station performance via observation data, ensuring satisfaction of operational requirements
Working remotely with ground stations to troubleshoot rf issues, as seen via observational data including gps, space network, near earth network, and/or the deep space network
Documenting work in formal technical reports or forums with spacecraft operations teams, ground station personnel, and/or government customers
Note this position does not involve field evaluations or hands-on hardware supportSome travel may be requiredOccasional off-hours support will be required.

Required skills:
Knowledge of ground station architecture and equipment to include up and down converters, power amplifiers, receivers, and other antenna elements
Knowledge of spacecraft transmitter, transponder, and receiver designs to include oscillator aspects, modulation schemes, acquisition and tracking thresholds, and general characteristics
Demonstrated experience analyzing and diagnosing ground station systems, involving multiple sub-systems
Ability to apply problem solving methodologies to complex & ambiguous problems
Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Desired skills:
Experience utilizing gps, space network, near earth network, and/or deep space network observation types
Experience in a spacecraft operations environment
Work experience at a ground station
Experience in calculating and/or analyzing link budgets
Experience with windows and linux environments
Experience developing tools in python, perl, and matlab
Required degree:
Bachelor’s in engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field
