Make-a-wish america is the national headquarters for our organization, providing resources and support for our 59 chapters around the countryThis team is focused on supporting our chapters through a shared financial services model, providing chapters with financial processing, reporting, and tax filingsThey also maintain the financial health of the national office through budgeting, monthly reporting, accounting, reconciliations, and payables.
The senior accounting manager will provide strong customer service to chapters, creating service and product enhancements, and serve as a leader of both people and initiatives within the departmentThis position will interact with individuals on all levels within the organization and prepare financial documentation that will be used by chapter senior leadership, including chapters' board of directors.
Where you come in
As the senior accounting manager, sfs you will:
Lead and manage member(s) of the accounting team which includes setting expectations, providing feedback, managing workload, ensuring consistent response times and delivery of resultsServes as advisor to sfs team in accounting practices and leadership development.
Lead onboarding efforts for chapters joining sfs which includes streamlining and standardizing historical processes, ensuring financial tie-outs from previous years, creating and reconciling all accounts, and developing and maintaining chapter trust and relationshipGuides transition of chapter to permanent manager after onboarding period.
Deliver direction to the support teams, accounts payable and donor care, to further streamline and enrich current processes.
Provide guidance, and reviews as needed, on the chapter internal/external financial process and reporting package including the approval of journal entries as needed.
Ensure monthly close is being managed accurately, timely and effectively with appropriate variance analysis and explanations.
Monitor sfs chapters’ performance against budget and national benchmarking metrics, ensuring appropriate recording of revenue and expenses agrees to both gaap and maw policies.
Provide guidance for the raiser’s edge system to ensure appropriate coding and reporting of chapter revenue streams.
Serve as liaison for all sfs chapters for feedback, enhancements, and requests.
Provides service and assistance to the enterprise related to netsuite, financial reporting, and month/year end deadlines.
Offer guidance for the team in the preparation of annual budget.
Act as key staff person in annual internal and external audit process communicating with national office, chapters, and external auditors for newly onboarded chapters.
Assist as needed with additional chapters during the audit process.
Resource for review and evaluation of time and use studies used in allocating the indirect costs of the chapters.
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
What you’ll need
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field required.
4 – 6 years of experience in accounting and/or financial reporting required.
Previous leadership experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of microsoft office applications required, including demonstrated expertise in microsoft excel.
Cpa designation a bonus.
Experience with netsuite strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations is preferred.
