Zoetis is seeking a talented and experienced in vivo behavioral pharmacologist to contribute to our efforts in global therapeutics research at zoetisThe successful candidate will support the identification and discovery of new therapeutic approaches to pain and inflammation for dogs and catsThough focused on pain and inflammation, the candidate will also be expected support other therapeutic areas, such as atopic dermatitis, cardiovascular and renal, in the companion animal research in vivo teamThe individual will be expected to independently evaluate appropriate scientific literature, create behavioral assays and implement novel technologies to create better translatable models of pain and inflammation in companion animalsThe candidate should demonstrate a knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of in vivo models and the translatability of these models from the laboratory to the clinic.,The development of appropriate protocols, the planning and scheduling of studies, the organization and management of scientific data, and the timely presentation of scientific results will also be expectedThe successful candidate will participate in and coordinate studies conducted by outside collaborators or in collaboration with academic institutionsThe individual will lead and/or participate in multi-disciplinary teams and will be expected to work in close collaboration with a range of scientists and clinicians across the organizationA senior in-vivo pharmacologist that has experience in a related discipline such as pain/inflammation and/or allergic dermatitis; disease pathophysiology, internal medicine, pharmacology, neuroscience, experimental psychology or pathology/toxicologyAdditional desirable experience includes prior experience in drug discovery or development within the pharmaceutical industryThe applicant needs to have a good understanding of; the pathophysiology of important companion animal diseases, ability to conduct hypothesis driven research, development of animal models, and how to design and conduct drug efficacy trials and animal behaviorThe selected candidate will be expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage time and adapt to a rapidly changing environmentExcellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essentialSome travel may be requiredPosition responsibilities:
Pain/inflammation scholarship in disease models and their application
Develop understanding of in-vivo mechanism of action of identified targets
Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines to understand pathophysiology
Work closely with team leads to identify potential therapeutic substrate
Directly communicate with external partners for collaborations and outsourcing.
Education and experience:
Educational background: minimum bsIn biology, neuroscience, psychology or related fieldsPreferred ms in neuroscience, behavioral pharmacology or experimental psychology or related fields.
Training or experience in biological and behavioral sciences focusing on animal models and translation from laboratory to clinic.
Experience with literature reviews, interpretation of literature and application of literature findings to current research.
Exposure to animal use protocols and iacuc.
Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently, design experiments with minimal supervision, and able work across teams remotely and face-to-face.
Experience interacting with cros or external partnerships
Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
