GoFundMe is looking for an experienced privacy, data protection and information security attorney to (a) build, refine and scale privacy and data protection compliance processes and (b) be a specialist focused on partnering closely with the Data Protection Officer, and the legal, information security and product teams.
You need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with broad responsibilities. Legal smarts are a must but we are also looking for a keen business sense, common sense, a strong work ethic, and a likeable personality. You must have the ability to operate independently, proactively, and cross functionally with teams across the organization. Experience advising or working on fintech related privacy and data protection issues is required.
The Job…
- Build, refine and scale privacy and data protection compliance processes for a fast-paced and growing business
- Provide privacy and information security support to members throughout the company, including but not limited to the Data Protection Officer, and Information Security and Product teams.
- Be a cross-functional champion for privacy and information security.
- Lead and manage regulatory investigations and responses.
- Lead and manage data protection impact assessments and audits.
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to deliver best in class privacy and information security training initiatives across GoFundMe.
- Work with other teams to review and track privacy and information security compliance through project lifecycles.
- Work with other teams to define and enhance internal policies and controls governing data security and privacy.
- Support and manage various one off projects.
You...
- 6+ years of legal experience, including supporting and advising businesses on privacy, data protection and information security related concerns, ideally with both a law firm and within a technology, fintech or other internet company.
- JD from an accredited law school, and be admitted to a State Bar and be in good standing.
- CIPP preferred.
- Comfortable working in a company that is fast-paced and experiencing rapid growth.
- International experience in payments or fintech fields is a plus.
- Ability to lead and manage privacy and information security investigations including responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Experience with privacy and data protection compliance processes and practices.
- Experience advising diverse stakeholders on privacy and data protection issues from employee, marketing, sales, product and engineering to everything else in between.
- Excellent knowledge of global privacy standards and regimes including but not limited to CCPA, CPRA, and GDPR.
- Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad range of legal matters and technologies.
- You are a self-starter who works well with minimal supervision, but shows excellent judgment about when to look to managers and teammates for guidance, and when and how to communicate with diverse stakeholders.
- You are a team player with a proven track record of building cross-functional relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to complete several simultaneous projects on a deadline.
- Detail oriented with excellent writing skills.
