We are looking for a talented and motivated Senior Backend Engineer (m/f/d) for our Driver Engagement Squad.
As part of a highly-skilled cross-functional team that comprises 2 BE Engineers, 2 iOS Engineers, 2 Android Engineers, Product Manager, Researcher, Designer and headed up by a technical Engineering Manager you will help shape the future of how FREE NOW assists our drivers in their daily work.
The team mission is to enable being a driver a rewarding profession, minimising their effort and maximising their earnings. To do so, some challenges you will face will be to create unique products (participating in all stages of them) that will provide a delightful, sustainable, and customized urban mobility experience. We have tens of thousands of drivers from 11 countries using our platform 24/7.
As one of our Senior Engineers, we would also look to you to challenge the Status Quo and look at new solutions that will make our products better by having a state-of-the-art code base and overall contribute to making our team a pleasure to work with.
Your day-to-day responsibilities:
- Own the Feature, Own the Code – feel responsible for what you create. This starts with bringing in your own feature ideas, goes over development, testing and ends in deploying your code and monitoring it
- Design and develop systems based on product requirements or refactorings
- Maintain and improve the existing systems by finding application bottlenecks and performance issues, improve the usage of resources (DB access, cache, messaging, etc)
- Collaborate with your team members in an agile environment, contribute to and live our agile ceremonies
- Be accountable for all topics above, but work together with the team on them: you care about team work
- Stay on top of the latest technology trends, apply the best practices to our daily work
What you should bring:
- Passionate about Java or Kotlin
- Familiarity with the quirks of Spring Boot or similar frameworks
- Experience with automated tests
- Experience with CI/CD tools
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (i.e. Grafana, Kibana, Jaeger, etc)
- Knowledge of microservices architecture
- Familiar with messaging by using RabbitMQ or Kafka
- High level of creativity, there’s all the freedom to think outside the box
- Be communicative, proactive and always collaborative and enjoy working in a group
- Very good written and verbal communication skills in English
The interview process will be in 5 stages and should be completed in less than 4 weeks:
1st - Interview with one of our Talent Acquisition partners - this will be a get to meet you interview, sharing more details about you and discussing the role and FREE NOW in general.
2nd – Tech Challenge. Take home challenge and a chance for you to show us what makes you so good at what you do
3rd – Challenge Review. Two of our Senior Engineers will review your challenge with you, look at ways of improving it, challenge you on your decisions but also for you to defend your code. We are a non-egocentric organisation; we expect to be challenged and to challenge.
4th – Hiring Manager. Meet with the HM, opportunity to discuss your career, what is important to you, what can FREE NOW do to make you successful
5th – Meet the Team. Get to know your team and what makes them tick
