Book Layout Designer

We're growing our team at British Book Publishers UK. Since 2012, we've helped hundreds of authors turn messy manuscripts into beautiful, readable books. Now we need someone who cares about the details as much as we do.

You'll handle interior layout for both print and digital books. That means taking raw Word files or InDesign packages and building clean, professional interiors that don't cost authors a fortune. We work fast, but we don't cut corners. Typography matters to us. Spacing matters. The reading experience matters.

What You'll Actually Do

Design and format book interiors for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and memoir. Prepare print-ready PDFs that meet distributor specifications. Create reflowable and fixed-layout eBooks. Fix formatting issues in manuscripts before layout begins. Collaborate with cover designers to ensure visual consistency. Revise layouts based on author feedback without complaint. Maintain our template library and suggest improvements. Meet deadlines without us chasing you.

What You Need to Bring

Two years of book layout experience minimum. Expert-level skills in Adobe InDesign. Solid understanding of typography, grids, and print production requirements. Experience with eBook conversion tools. Ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality. Strong communication skills. Patience with authors who don't know what "orphan control" means. A portfolio showing at least five published books. Knowledge of accessibility standards in publishing is a plus.

This is a remote role with flexible hours. We pay fairly and on time. No drama.
