What You'll Do
As the Director of Learner Experience (LX) Design, you will work with key stakeholders to lead the vision in innovative design, development, and production of innovative online courses in line with iDesign values, quality, and partner goals. You will collaborate with VPs of LX, C-Suite, directors, project managers, shared services coordinators, and institutional administrators. You will hire, coach, and manage iDesign contractors such as learning architects and lead learning architects. You will be integral to the development and continuation of a positive and healthy iDesign culture, inside and out. You may also work on company-wide special projects as needed to facilitate new and ongoing business operations.
The successful candidate will work remotely as a full-time employee.
You will:
- Collaborate with the LX Directors team, shared services teams, staffing coordinator, VPs of LX, and C-Suite in support of LX operations and activities.
- Communicate and collaborate with compassionate candor: approaching situations with clarity, kindness, courage, and assumption of positive intent.
- Collaborate extensively with all iDesign teams and team members to ensure the quality and consistency of our processes and the creation of high-quality work.
- Look for opportunities to innovate and create efficiencies in LX processes and workflows, and be solutions-focused.
- Lead and coordinate with diverse teams (externally and internally) by focusing, inspiring, de-escalating, and modeling goodwill, strong expertise, and trust.
- Work with the staffing coordinator to Interview, hire, and coach learning architects and lead learning architects.
- Lead diverse teams with a variety of skillsets and provide vision, guidance, celebrations for successes, and constructive feedback for improvement.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities as deemed fit for the project, individual, role, and/or teams.
- Ensure the administration and execution of statements of work according to the scope, partners’ visions and student needs, and iDesign values.
What You Need to Get the Job Done
- Advanced degree in Instructional Design, Leadership, Education technology, Education, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with teams for online course development, in higher education.
- Demonstrated experience with quality review best practices and Quality Matters processes.
- Current, in-depth knowledge and expertise in instructional design practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence across complex organizational structures.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate to solve complex problems.
- Ability to establish collaborative and collegial relationships with iDesign team members while still moving projects forward and meeting project deadlines.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, excellent follow-through, and exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead complex projects while adhering to budgetary constraints.
- Strong analytical, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to resolve issues and determine effective business and alternative solutions.
- Excellent discernment related to ethical decision making and willingness to seek support as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to lead calmly, clearly, and with compassionate candor.
- Ability to stay calm in stressful or emergent situations; de-escalates situations through active listening and open collaboration.
- Experience helping institutional leaders and partners clarify key questions, visions, and problem statements related to program and other educational designs
- Willingness to approach issues with curiosity while maintaining an openness to differing ideas.
- Proven track record of navigating complexity and openness to ambiguity.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
What Will Make Us REALLY Love You
- A proven track record of working with academic and business partners to manage projects for the creation of engaging and effective online courses.
- Expert in online learning, instructional design and technology, adult learning theory, and andragogy/pedagogy/heutagogy to support course development.
- Experience developing courses for an international student audience and integrating plain language approach.
- Experience working with and leading teams in large-scale competency-based education (CBE), executive education and online course design and development.
- Experience in gap identification and analysis
- Deep understanding of higher education systems.
- Proven track record of performing well within projects that require a very high tolerance for ambiguity.
- Experience creating evidence-based, well-cited, and systems-oriented educational recommendations derived from interviews, focus groups, and other qualitative and quantitative information.
- Experience identifying and collaboratively creating solutions and shared visions that take into account volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA)
- Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills.
