We’re looking for a senior-level brand leader who is a proven strategic and creative thinker to lead our Cultural Marketing team. The ideal candidate has their finger on the pulse of culture, is willing to take risks, and will build deep partnerships across the organization to bring our brand to life in every single customer touchpoint.
As the Director, Cultural Marketing, you’ll manage a team of brand marketers focused on building cultural relevance through cultural strategy and programs, social media, influencer marketing, and brand partnerships. This strategic leader will shape a cultural marketing strategy that elevates the Upwork brand, winning the hearts and minds of our target audiences around the world. You will report to the Senior Director, Brand Marketing.
Your Responsibilities:- Build, lead, and inspire a world-class team of brand marketers focused on building brand love and cultural relevance through brand programs that scale the Upwork brand above and beyond brand advertising
- Lead our cultural strategy, social media, influencer marketing, and brand partnerships, inclusive of culture and entertainment partnerships, sponsorships, and product placement, and forge strong partnerships with our media partners, agencies, studios, networks, producers, and influencers
- Inspire your team to unlock and craft compelling human and cultural stories to build a culturally relevant, human centered brand and fight for creative, edgy, on-brand ideas, engage in rigorous debate in the pursuit of great work, and roadblocks to ensure that Upwork breaks through and ensures our brand resonates emotionally in culturally relevant human moments
- Drive the development of cultural marketing brand briefs that capture customer and human insights, collaborate closely with Creative Strategy and Creative, and champion the work throughout the process.
- Lead your team through ideation and execution to deliver cultural marketing programming and collaborate and partner closely with a dynamic team of marketers, in-house and agency creatives, product experts and other leaders throughout the company to bring our brand to life.
- Deep background as a account director and people leader at a brand or creative agency, consultancy, or a company’s internal brand marketing team, including in-house brand experience
- Strong track record and experience in culture and entertainment brand marketing, social media, and influencer marketing and ability to develop long-term brand and creative strategies that fuel cultural relevance, breakthrough work and business growth.
- A “can do” attitude and proven track record of inspiring creative thinking
- Proven ability to develop and establish leadership alignment
- Highly skilled in developing brand campaigns that create a strong human connection for technology brands.
- Marketplace or tech company experience is a plus.
