Direct a team of functional managers, project engineers, cad designers, project managers and project coordinators including hiring, terminations, performance reviews, scheduling, and training Lead, develop and mentor a staff for continuous improvement of engineering expertise, professional development and career path planning Serve as primary sign & seal engineer for deliverables that require a professional engineering stamp Work closely with the vice president of sales & services, vice president of business operations, and senior accountant to report: expected monthly, quarterly and annual service revenue and margin for assigned programs/projects, additional service opportunities, service receivable issues, and department workload projections that may dictate the need to grow or reduce staff Responsible for executing on growth objectives set by executive management, in tandem with or apart from ongoing department resource/staff growth demandsDirector of engineering will be actively involved in the organizational planning, interviewing and hiring, and budgeting necessary to achieve growth objectives Partner with sales leadership to identify and expand upon opportunities to increase revenue (e.g., incremental business with existing customers) and work with the sales team on proposals for services Ensure that appropriate management team members are well informed regarding department issues and operational performance including, but not limited to: on time delivery, budget performance, cycle time improvement, and customer satisfaction Work closely with directors of services peers and project managers to plan for forecasted workload, execute on existing work assignments, and navigate solutions to items that require senior-level assistance or mediation Provide leadership on engineering program work and offer engineering-related guidance and support to internal and external customers Stay abreast of new technical methods and developments in tower engineering
Hire, supervise and manage the performance of technical staff and project management staff and provide technical direction and training to the members of the team Create strong collaborative team environment and demonstrate personnel management skills with creativity, foresight and mature judgment Coach team members on technical and professional performance Counsel and terminate staff as deemed necessary in conjunction with human resources
Skills and abilities required:
Detailed knowledge of structural analysis software and of tower structures and design methods Broad knowledge of cad software Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents Ability to communicate effectively, whether orally or written Ability to direct the diagnosis of work flow problems, critical paths and institute remedies Ability to read and understand complex financial metrics to identify optimum outcome and remedies to financial issues Ability to direct a team by setting goals and priorities to facilitate achievement of organizational objectives Customer service orientation with a strong problem-solving approach Demonstrate strong understanding of project delivery and technical disciplines within the team Able to recognize limitations in process and seeks creative solutions Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively to the members of the team Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment Strong track record of building and maintaining solid relationships with both internal and external customers and vendors
Education and experience:
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering or a related field required Professional engineer (pe) license preferred Minimum of 5 years' experience in the communication tower design and analysis Working knowledge of tia/eia-222 code and other relevant specifications Active member of professional organization or technical society preferred
