Job Summary:

The Database Administrator is expected to have experience building and managing database systems. This includes advanced SQL query writing, intermediate performance tuning and optimization, understanding database techniques, and an advanced understanding of backups, recovery and recovery strategies.

This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience working with SQL Server, and a minimum of 5 years of overall IT experience. This is a fully remote position, it is expected that the incumbent will have viable internet and space to work. The team works in US Central time, and meetings are held during business hours in that time zone. There is an on-call rotation, and the incumbent will be expected to participate in the on-call rotation as well as after-work-hours deployments, typically not more than one night per week.

Essential Functions:

• Performance tuning
• Database object security
• Database login security
• Troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve issues while minimizing downtime and risk
• Assess the performance of queries by reading them.
• Manage and maintain backups

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Performance tuning
• Relational database design
• Diverse troubleshooting skills
• Monitoring and alerting
• Ability to script tasks for automation
• Ability to plan and manage large scale backups and the security and redundancy of those backups
• Familiarity with more than one database management systems (MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB, etc)
• Familiarity with non-relational data management systems (DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, etc)

Optional Skills:

A Database Administrator should have familiarity with at least 2 of the following:

• AWS S3 or similar services on other cloud providers.
• Powershell
• Python
• Bash scripting
