Founders

Wietse

Grew up in Sri Lanka, where his family worked in various community development programmes. Background in Hospitality Business where he founded multiple businesses in the fields of International Events for NGO’s,  music-events and festivals in the Netherlands, a social & community-based lunchroom and ran the first blockchain community-funded restaurant in Rotterdam. He is co-founder of tuktukrental.com and currently running the show in-country.

Tom

Tom has founded 3x successful social enterprises, one in India, one in Sri Lanka and one in Australia. In India, he was the city co-founder in Hyderabad, mapping over 1200 urban slum communities and training local entrepreneurs to provide life-changing products to those in need, primarily a solar light replacing candles and kerosine. He is a co-founder of tuktukrental.com. He further started a social-impact brewery in Australia called Spangled Drongo which saves 1m2 of habitat for each beer brewed. He currently works in a supporting role from Australia and can’t wait to get back to Sri Lanka.

Rich

Richard works part-time remotely from Norway/Australia. He has bachelor degrees in commerce and aerospace engineering and a masters in international development. He has worked as a management consultant for a number of years, advising large Australian companies on strategy and operations. He co-founded Prosple, a graduate recruitment agency and is co-founder of tuktukrental.com.

About the role

We are looking for a female, English speaking, highly self-motivated and driven person to support the operations division of our business. She should be able to hit the ground running and shouldn’t be afraid to get their hands dirty with whatever tasks are required to support the business, even if they are completely outside of this position description. Your job will be to provide tourists with driving lessons and help them master the art of driving a tuktuk. Further, you will be responsible for the quality of the tuktuks, ensuring they are in perfect condition for our customers. You will be awarded a lot of local travel, driving tuktuks all over the country and enjoying the island's beauty while you work!

Location:

The role will be based from our main office in Katunayaka but will require a reasonable amount of incentivised local travel.

Commitment:

We would expect you to be based out of Katunayaka and travel nationally. Driving and maintaining tuktuks is a huge part of this role, as is giving driving lessons to our customers.

Your role will include, but is not limited to the following:

• Giving TukTuk driving lessons to customers in English

• Obtaining and collecting local licenses for customers

• Inspecting the quality of tuktuks pre and post-hire (giving a report and fixing any problems)

• Dropping-off and picking up tuktuks in all over the country

• Taking tuktuks to our mechanic, ensuring the quality of the machines and bringing them back to the office

• Other tasks as directed by management, eg. keeping the office and parking area clean

Remuneration:

• Work hours: flexible.

• Salary varies between 35,000 and 80,000LKR depending on the number of hours worked and bonus incentives.

• Flexibility to work outside of work hours upon request from management.

• If working beyond the baseline work hours, compensation will be given either by leave days/hours or at a rate equivalent to the standard rate.

• A timesheet will need to be recorded and signed daily for work hours.
