We’re on the hunt for an amazing copywriter to join our growing team and help us shape the future of marketing copy/communications at FREE NOW.
We’re looking for someone brilliant with words. But, of course, that goes without saying for a copywriter role. So, what else will you need to join us?
In addition to your next-level wordsmithery, there are a few other traits that’ll have us jumping at the chance to meet you…
The ability to make sense of ambiguity. Sounds mysterious, right? We’ve had a mad and brilliant 12 months here with just one writer covering everything. That means we’ll need you to thrive in helping our team lead to define everything from processes to tone of voice, and take a super hands-on role in creating and editing all the words we create as a business.
A generalist approach to your copywriting craft. There are some people who specialise solely in writing one type of copy. They win awards for their niche skills and regale their friends with tales of their super-specific copywriting. If you are one of these people, this role is not for you. You’ll be working on everything from whitepapers to in-app notifications, driver email comms to global campaigns, and varying your voice across them all.
- You must have a hawk (or any other bird-of-prey of your choosing)-like eye for detail. We want you to bore people with how obsessed you are with good grammar and spelling. We’d also like you to be able to understand the nuances between playing with grammatical rules for effect, and just flat-out ignoring them.
- A true command of the English language. That might mean you learned it completely fluently watching reruns of everyone’s favourite NYC-coffee-shop based sitcom, or it might mean you were born and raised in Blighty. Either way, you’ll need to go beyond knowing your ‘there’ from your ‘their’.
- Ideally you’ll have 2-5 years of experience either in an agency or in-house, across a wide breadth of topics and content types.
Some nice-to-haves
- A true passion for mobility services and the future of urban transportation. Yes, we know, not everyone is harbouring a secret obsession with eScooters and just waiting for the perfect role to arise where they can wax lyrical about those joyous little modes of transportation. But, everyone who works here genuinely cares a whole heap about the products we create and what we’re trying to do in the world, so if you’re not an eScooter (and every other form of transport we offer) nerd already, you’ll need to be open to becoming one.
- A second European language. We offer our users across Europe our app in lots of languages, but we create all of our source copy in English. So if you’re fluent in one or more of the following languages, you’ll jump a little further up our CV pile;
- French
- German (we also localise for Austria)
- Polish
- Portuguese
- Italian
- Romanian
- Greek
- Spanish
- Catalan
- Experience working for an app, tech start-up or product-led company.

Now here are a few of the more serious (boring) but very important details our HR department said we absolutely had to include.
Since the pandemic hit back in 2020, we’ve all been pretty much remote. If you’d like to work 100% of your time remotely from anywhere in the world, that’s just fine, but you must be happy to work European hours (we do offer flexible working). If you’re based near one of our European offices and want to spend some (or all) of your time there, that’s also fine (local COVID restrictions apply).
In the future, we hope we’ll be able to occasionally travel to meet each other too, but in the meantime we do lots of socialising online.
This role will be reporting into our Senior Lead, Content & Localisation who sits across our Product and Marketing organisations. You’ll be the first marketing-only role on the team, but you’ll get to work alongside 3 UX Writers and a Translation Manager.
