Position - Database Administrator
Location - Green Bay, WI
Description:
Our client is looking for a Database Administrator professional to support the overall design, implementation, testing and maintenance of complex and widely integrated SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL databases at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. This position will serve “as needed” with a mixture of daily support and specific project work on upgrades and new implementations. The database administrator is responsible for the management of Microsoft SQL Server database management software, MySQL software, database connectivity software, and other related software on database servers running Windows operating systems.
Tasks/Responsibilities
· Support and maintain our current Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL database infrastructure, including the acquisition, installation, and testing of releases and upgrades.
· Design data models and create databases for Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL.
· Administer and create Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases for enterprise applications such as Mercury, ImageNow and Ungerboeck USI. Provide support for upgrades as needed.
· Design, implement, and execute database backup and recovery procedures. Evaluate backup and recovery scenarios to choose the appropriate strategy to meet availability agreements.
· Perform debugging, problem analysis, and problem resolution of database management systems.
· Manage performance and tuning of database management systems. Design and create indexes to produce more efficient paths and faster execution of SQL statements.
· Recommend standards, policies and guidelines to ensure database access, database security and data integrity.
· Provide support to other developers for database design, data access and database security and performance tuning of SQL statements.
· Ensure that the application system is taking the best advantage of database management software and other database server related software and middleware.
Skills Required
· 1-3 years - Experience as a Database Administrator in higher education
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
· Knowledge of SQL and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL.
Skills Desired
· Skills using troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
· Ability to learn new technical skills and concepts quickly with minimal training and a high level of self-motivation and attention to details.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently as well as contribute and collaborate as part of a team.
· Experience supporting, maintaining and monitoring complex database systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle.
