Abl believes every student deserves the opportunity to maximize their potential by making informed and meaningful choices about their lives and futures. Unfortunately, many students aren’t given the same opportunities due to systemic inequities perpetuated by outdated, unresponsive systems. Abl offers advanced, data-driven software and services to help K12 school and district leaders identify and remove those barriers to equity. The Abl team is made up of education leaders and experts working together with engineers, designers, and data scientists to build the tools schools districts need to shape pathways for each student to achieve success.
We are looking to add a talented Data Integration Manager who will help us gather data from our customers, process it for quality and ensure it gets to the right place so our customers can take advantage of our solutions as soon as possible. The role will involve a high degree of understanding how critical data can be to inform education leaders and help them positively impact the lives of students and teachers, often in cross-collaboration with other departments. As a part of the Engineering team, you will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
This role excites you because:- Education data is critical and complex. You fully grasp the complexity of data management, especially in the K-12 space. And while gathering high quality data is hard, you also recognize that getting it right is essential to improve student outcomes and systemic inequities.
- Scaling & standardizing data is your dream. You have a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures to help us organize how we collect data from our customers, and how we verify that data is of the utmost quality. You can maintain easy-to-understand instructions for customers to gather sometimes complex data sets.
- Walking the line between product development, school districts, and data vendors is your sweet spot. When customers encounter obstacles in collecting the data we need, you can develop a good rapport with individuals across external data teams, to ensure they can gather the data we need in a timely and secure manner.
- Success looks like: Increasing volume, standardization, and quality of data collected. Decreasing time and effort to exchange data between Abl and our customers. Enabling Abl’s R&D team to increase impact and value using data as a catalyst and not point of friction.
- You are decisive and compelling: You can create and enforce policies and techniques for effective data collection and QA processes to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data, especially across the K-12 space.
- You know data: You are fluent with relational databases, SQL, CSV / txt files and information system technologies. You are proficient in spreadsheets of any kind.
- You know K-12 school districts & data systems: You recognize that there will be friction involved with data collection, yet you are determined to navigate those waters because you have experience working with district data systems (e.g. SIS, LMS, HR).
- You can collaborate across internal and external teams: You can work with Sales, Client Success, District IT teams and SIS vendors to support client data collection with a focus on reliability, resiliency, and quality.
- You have a knack for product development: You are quick to identify problems and propose scalable solutions. You can troubleshoot data-related problems and authorize maintenance or modifications when needed.
- You have a growth mindset: You welcome feedback and new ideas and cultivate a collaborative environment.
- You value strong communication: You enjoy and excel at communicating complex requests in a simple, approachable way for technical and non-technical audiences alike. You effectively communicate your opinions to peers with expertise, humility, and kindness.
Bonus Points:
- You have a passion for domain modeling
- You’ve been part of a team that builds data integration products
- You’ve worked at a Student Information System
Note to Candidates: Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they check all the boxes listed in a job description. We are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job, and that candidate may be one who comes from a less traditional background. We encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our qualifications described.
