Duties
Cmm programmers need to program, set up and operate coordinate measuring machines (cmm) for the inspection of components for plastic injection moldsIn addition to performing the calibration of the coordinate measuring machine, you will also use precise measurement tools, such as a caliper and micrometer, to ensure our products meet our manufacturing standardsApplicants need to be able to read blueprints, so some technical training or professional experience is preferred.
Skills
Cmm programmers must be able to decide what areas need to be inspected and the number of points required to provide enough usable dataThey need to know what type and size of stylus to useComputer skills are necessary, which includes a computer file managementBlueprint reading skillsOther key skills needed include teamwork, communication, organization, creativity and strong math knowledge.
Physical demands
Cmm programmers are required to sit, stand, walk, squatThey will be bending over machines, and using their hands to hold onto parts for positioning during job set upReaching with hands and arms while lifting work pieces onto or off of the cmm; parts weighing anywhere from less than a pound up to 50 lbsOccasionally, they will need to slide heavy plates into and out of machines, weighing up to 100 lbs specific vision abilities are required for this job including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Environment
Indoor, clean, climate controlled in the cmm roomThey will need to go out into the main shop floor occasionally which can be somewhat noisy at times, air blasts, machines and vacuum systemsCmm programmer will be using cleaning and degreasing solvents in their work.
Education
Associate degree or post-high school, technical school/apprenticeship preferred.
Experience
Minimum 5 years work experience in a cmm programmer position preferred.
Experience with precise measurement tools, such as calipers and micrometers.
